Ok, if you are like me as a film/video editor, I buy refurbished Macbook Pros for work, which means the older models before 2021. So you need this Hyperdrive hub Pro 8-in-2 (the other ones like the duo 7 suck balls because of the dumb black sleeve) so you can connect all the different drives and peripherals and displays, etc. This is THE ORIGINAL, which all other lesser brands try to copy and imitate.Since Steve Jobs died, Apple's decision making on stuff has been wonky... after much complaints on the Macbook Pros and Airs, they not only got rid of the touchbar (DUMB DUMB DUMB) but also put back all the ports (removing them was even DUMBER)! So yeah, after 2021, you don't need a stupid add-on like this hub (that is why this thing is sooooo cheap now -- it used to cost over $100). Meanwhile, if you buy older Macbooks because the newest models ARE OVER-FRICKIN-PRICED, then this Hyperdrive hub is EEEEESENTIAL!

This hub needs a complicated firmware hub to function as a connection via USB to external monitor without flickering. The firmware update requires you to partition your MAC and install WINDOWS. Obviously, this is a mac-only product, so that is insane. I bought this to replace another slightly older version from the same manufacturer because it caused a flicker. This one flickers a hundred times worse, and they KNOW about the issue. Why in the world they don't just do a batch firmware update on their product I have no idea. They have a published blog that this is a known issue and the comments say it takes nearly an hour. It's a multistep fix. You can also call them and get them to do it. Instead, I will just send this back and find another manufacturer. I'm pretty disappointed in this product, and I had bought one for me and for my employee.
