I am very happy I didn’t order his cookbooks
About 50 pages into the book I realized “Meniere Man” DOES NOT want to be identified, not even the country he lives in (clearly not the US). I have a problem with a memoir written by someone who doesn't want to be identified. As such I became very suspicious of what he had to say.One review stated it is an easy read. That is because his advice is a lot like his recipes- “A of this, a little of that, and cook”; very vague except when it comes to taking vitamins, then he is very specific. Taking the volume of vitamins he recommends without medical supervision seems dangerous to me.Nonetheless, I found the book inspirational. I was diagnosed with Meniere’s 8 years ago at the age of 62. In that first year I went through every therapy my ENT had to offer including Endolymphatic sac decompression surgery but short of the surgeries that permanently damage the ear. I also changed my diet, tried acupuncture and vestibular training. At the end of the year I was worse than when I started and found it easy to give up trying to overcome Meniere’s. Over the last 7 years I’ve been focused on several life-changing events and dealt with the Meniere’s as best I could; albeit with a lot of support from friends and family. Life has settled down a bit and I’m ready to give healing the Meniere’s another go and this book gave me a boost of confidence that maybe I can regain my quality of life.

Excellent resource!
I bought this for my mom, who suffers from Meniere's. She learned a lot from this book, and it's been very helpful for her. Unfortunately, doctors just don't give you much info on this disease.

An Inspiring Read
In his second book on the topic of Meniere's Disease, the author, known only as Meniere Man, describes the challenges of living with serious chronic illness. His thoughtful, inspiring memoir includes not only the limitations the disease imposes but also provides a variety of step by step techniques for reestablishing health through alternative therapies, diet, exercise and a can do attitude.The author begins life a longed for son and brother in a world of happy neighborhood games and uncomplicated pleasures. The rapid failure of his mother's second marriage changes his life abruptly and completely. Although the family initially loses everything, the energetic, focused efforts of his mother rescue the family and finally produce independence and financial success."Work through your problems, regardless of how devastating they are and you'll discover that anything is possible. Eve (author's mother) taught me this and I can see now what a gift she gave me."This dramatic event provides the template for the author's own extreme challenge to his life's achievement when he receives the devastating diagnosis of Meniere's disease after the puzzling onset of vertigo during a family vacation.The illness upends his stable, prosperous life. Harnessing his considerable creativity and intelligence, the author analyzes his symptoms and systematically treats them with a wide range of therapies from simple fixes like a liver cleanse or sunglasses to acupuncture, bio-feedback, massage, homeopathy, hypnotherapy and counseling. While each approach delivers some measure of relief from the ravages of his illness, it is the author's relentless determination to win his life back that produces an impressive return to health and usefulness.This is a valuable and inspiring book for anyone facing the limitations of serious illness for oneself or a close relation. All health care professionals would benefit from reading about this energetic and inventive search for therapies to augment traditional approaches to managing illness. The author speaks with the wisdom and authority that only a man who has fought for his life against fearful odds and won can claim.This book receives my highest recommendation.

knowledge =empowerment
My husband has had a range of health problems,(loss of balance etc)to loss of hearing overnight and tinnitus. All of this leads to the ENT dept.All to be given a probable diagnosis of Menieres and a presciption and told that a low salt diet my help!!!!!Thank goodness for Meniere Man , after reading this book ( and the butterfly )it has answered questions and given hope.Meniere Man has helped us to be pro active and empowered.If this diagnosis is lifelong we can plan for the future better equipped for changes in the condition.None of us like surprises of a medical nature and to have the knowledge gained first hand is invaluable to help us feel that we are not alone and to try other things that may help the quality of life improve.It can be very depressing to find you have a lifelong disease with no treatment and that it may only get worse.Thankfully it is not fatal but Meniere Man has helped put the symptoms into perspective and we now have in a seies of books to dip in and out of for ideas to try.After leaving the ENT doc in a state of shock the questions start to form, and now we have these books to help us .Meniere Man you are a hero in our eyes.This may not be a popular disease but to those suffering, these books we cant praise highly enough.To be able to describe the symptoms to others who think this is just 'a mere minor inconvienience'is empowering and gives a sense of not being a victim, but requiring understanding when the world spins,and Menieres rears its unwelcome head again.

A helpful read for anyone suffering from Menieres Disease
I have been diagnosed with Menieres for some years and after a recent episode of attacks I decided to try self help and purchased this book, found it very insightful in relation to vitamins. Thought the price was a bit on the high side but never the less it's a book to keep and refer back too. Would recommend.

A good book for those who have recently been diagnosed with Meniere's disease. My boyfriend is struggling to come to terms with his recent diagnosis and this book is good to show him that he is not alone and has some good tips for dealing with your emotions and the affects of the disease.
