MUCH Better Than the "other" Brands
So I spent many hours trying to figure out which J-Hooks to replace my aging Malone folding brackets that have actually worked out well for the last few years. I just picked up a Yakima Rack and Roll trailer and wanted something flashy to replace my Malone racks and it was a decision between the Yakima Jaylow, Thule Hull A Port XT and Kuat Class 4 V2. I like how all three are (somewhat) lockable to crossbars (though with Kuat, not 100% true). All three look fantastic! Unfortunately, that's where things end. I purchased the Kuat racks and they are beautiful. I reached out to their customer service department about the fact that they're not lockable to cross bars (an allen wrench is all you need to take them off their brackets) and customer service was nothing but helpful to the 100th degree! They agreed and sent out some additional locking inserts (for the brackets because only one (out of 2 per box) come with actual locks). I bought some stainless security bolts to mount the hooks to the brackets so that it would be harder (at least) for someone to take them. The interaction I had with Kuat's customer service was quick, efficient, friendly and extremely nice and helpful.Unfortunately, I returned the Kuat hooks because (I believe) they are flimsy. Everything is plastic (as far as I can tell) and there is so much play between the two components that I question the integrity of the hooks. This is much different from my cheaper Malone hooks, which are actually quite solid (at the hinge). The Kuats have about an inch of play and if (after a long day of yaking) slam a yak against the upper portion, I'm afraid the brace may fail! Look - Kuat offer's a 100% lifetime warranty on their J-Hooks - so there's that. But I want something that feels solid; that can take the beating of me tossing up a 75 pound Hobie. This is there Rhino comes in. I was about to try the Thule or Yakima J-Hooks, but many people have said similar things about them - flimsy! So I returned the Kuat J-Hooks and bought the Rhinos. The Rhinos arrived today and I just spent a few hours installing and configuring them. They are solid and well built. There is very little play at the hinge and I have NO doubt these can take a beating. I took off the row mounts as I didn't want that feature. It was easy to do...one nut.Two things I wish Rhino had with their J-Hooks - dual brackets to the cross bar and some sort of locking feature.I wish Yakima, Thule and Kuat used more metal with their products - people want well built things when it comes to hauling boats down an interstate at 75mph.

The only brand I trust!
Used these racks in pairing with the extension pieces also sold by Rhino Rack. I drive a GMC Sierra AT4 with GMC brand roof racks. These were easy to install, and the metal screws that extend past the tightening knobs were far from my roof because of my roof rack height. These racks were very sturdy and held up going 70 mph on a highway with 30 mph wind gusts, while carrying two kayaks! The straps included are helpful, but I’d recommend another ratchet strap for highway driving to be extra secure. The fact that these fold down is also really convenient. These are worth the cost!

Great Value for the Money
I researched before purchasing this system and always looked at the worst reviews. This was the best decision and I fully plan on buying 2 more kayak holders to use together. I have made 4 trips with them now including interstate and have no concerns. Straps and holder are good strong sturdy quality product. Was easy to install in 30 minutes with good instructions. Now I can put them on in less than 10 min and off in less than 5 min. I purchased the system with the same brand on purpose to not worry about any compatibility issues. They have a chart that tells you measurements of where to put it on your vehicle specific. have a few different options of how to orientate pieces to fit different vehicles. Rhino rails and holders. Very important to follow instructions and add pieces into the slot to prevent whistle. Very low noise that you will not hear above radio.

Secure Fit
FINALLY a secure fit for my teardrop crossbars (2000 Jeep Cherokee XJ). I've used cheaper versions of standing kayak racks and have had to adapt the grip with rubber for less "slippage" which was already not very reassuring for something holding my $800+ 50lbs kayak going down the freeway or hitting rocky offroad terrain. When I saw there is no rubber grip on these, I was disappointed, but turns out the metal bar (with some rubber coating) and the flat plate of the rack is wide enough to have a secure hold. The teeth that lock the folding mechanism in place are sturdy and impressive, though we will see how sun exposure and time affect the hard plastic (I imagine it would take years for them to break). I also appreciate the numbering system to really key in the angle so both are the same. Haven't thrown a kayak into these yet, but will stand by this review unless something (terrible) changes my mind.

Great holders and value for the price
These holders were very easy to install; I have the teardrop shaped crossbars on my car. It's nice when I have just my kayak that I can have that true "J hook" bar and when I have my boyfriend's larger sit on top, we make it straight up and down so that both fit on the top. I've drove 2+ hours with this set up and wasn't worried about the security of the yaks. The straps that come with it also work great and have held up fantastically for the season. I like the paddle holder, but I've only used it once. Overall great set of bars for the price!

Great product.
Received this rack system 2 days before a 2 week vacation. Installation was very simple. Supplied straps were perfect. I mounted them to my 1"x 4' round Yakima bars. I have a 12' Mad River kayak. Don't know the exact weight. Drove through OR, WA, ID, and MT from Northern CA to Glacier Nat. Park. Very windy trip, approx 2,500+ miles total round trip.Rack did very well. After we drove up I5 to Klamath Falls to our 1st nights camp site and checked on the mounts (that were still very tight) I knew this was a great system. I checked on them again in Idaho and still tight.A big thumbs up from me. I will be purchasing another set in the near future for my wife's car.Side note- They do swivel on the round bars to match the contour of the kayak.

Très bon rack! Il a passé vraiment le test dès sa première sortie avec du vent très fort. Il se plie facilement pour entrer dans les stationnements sous-terrain.
