Very pleased with this, even if it was different than pictured.
The thermometer pictured is NOT the thermometer you receive, as many reviewers have commented. The differences are: 1)Print is much smaller on the dial, but still very easily read. 2) The sheath is a single piece of black molded plastic without the "Temperature and recalibration guides" mentioned in the description. Now, all that being said, I didn't realize the differences until I happily sat at my computer to write a review about how pleased I was with the product, and then thought, "Wait, is that right? That looks different..." and compared them. This is a very attractive product, works very well, and I'm exceptionally pleased with it. The only people I wouldn't recommend it to are people who have very bad eyes and are specifically looking for very large numbers. Otherwise, this is a great product you'll be very pleased with.

Works Well, It flickers when exposed to instant Extreme Temps
I don't know if all thermometers do this when you suddenly dipped into boiling water from room temperature but the needle flickers/skips to the higher temperature instead of rising slowly. I'm guessing it does this because it is a big dial and your normally suppose to gradually go up in temperature and not instantly shock it. The needle goes back down smoothly though when taken out of the water back to room temperature. The metal beaker/cup clip does not seem to be adjustable and is fixed at the top of the thermometer with the connecting part coming down 1.5" from the dial. So you can technically adjust the depth of the tip from a range about 1 inch. This is my first thermometer so I do not know if the "flickering up" is normal but it seems to be giving me an accurate measure. It comes with a calibration tool or you can use a small wrench to calibrate it depending on your need. Besides that, the thermometer works great and is sensitive enough to show from room temp to when I am gripping it. Great product with a large dial for a great price.

Not accurate out of box
It's about 5-6 degrees Fahrenheit off out the box. In a glass of ice water it's reading 37-38f when it should read 32f but easy to calibrate

Better than others
Our last frothing pitcher thermometer lasted a couple months before my error resulted in it's demise. This one has a better clip, is easy to read, and seems to be better quality. The red zone makes getting to 155 or 160 easy to 'read' without my glasses. I haven't calibrated it but I know it was reading in the 180s when the milk was scalding and reads my hot water heater about right. It's at least as accurate as we need.

Yogurt Making Made Easy
I ordered this for yogurt making, and it's perfect! I calibrated the thermometer with the standard boil test, and it was only off by one degree, which I felt was totally within reasonable error. Though if you're really concerned about it, it comes with a calibration tool (its the black tube in the product picture). The thermometer seems pretty accurate and really allows me to control the milk boil/simmer for yogurt. The clip is really handy and works really well, keeping the thermometer in place. I imagine this would be great for frothing milk for lattes and cappuccinos, but the stem might be a little long. If you're looking for a beverage thermometer, you might check out something like this: CDN IRB220-F ProAccurate Insta-Read NSF Beverage & Frothing Thermometer . It has a shorter stem.

Works perfectly
This product has so far worked exactly as expected. The dail section came with no scratches or damage at all. Dial rises and falls smoothly both going up and down; Haven't seen any "jerkyness" with it jumping around large amounts. Only the first 1-2 inches of the probe have needed to be submerged in my milk for it to give these accurate readings -- Other reviews have stated they needed to submerge a much large percent of the probe to obtain accurate readings, but that wasn't my experience. I don't have any other more accurate thermometer to compare it to, so can't speak to it's precision. However, the readings for steaming milk feel roughly in line with where they should be.
