superb read, couldn't t put it down
i love Roths emotional range, the story's are based on realties or ahis own or friends' experience , bits of and mixed up depending on the story. you get a sense of the physical cities and place in usa. new jersey and other place, a breathtaking description of his first teacher , a manly , brilliant ex GI, back from Vietnam , inspiring and encouraging the students to stand up for what they believe in. its range takes in the Macarthy persecutions and a portrait of a big generous younger brother of the teacher who marries an actress - based in fact on Clair Bloom , her daughter and Roths actual marriage and divorce from them. parents , children the full cast of a lifetime. i adore his stories.america
