Do yourself a favor -- keep these in stock if you have an electric tea maker!!!
Don't know why, but these cleaner packets really, really work. My husband loves his new Breville tea maker but isn't terribly fastidious about keeping it clean. As the stains began to increase, he finally tried one of these packets, following directions, and was completely blown away by how easy and successful the cleaning process was. Said the tea tasted as good afterwards as it had when the machine was brand new. He now uses them weekly and routinely reminds me to buy more of them for him. He's been known to recycle the cleaning fluid after use in his Breville by pouring it into clean but stained tea mugs, even an electric egg boiler with scale accumulating on it. Presto! His tea mugs now look fresh and unstained, and his egg boiler is working smoothly again. Short of a magic wand, I don't ever expect to find anything else as inexplicably but simply effective as these little packets. Expensive, people say? Worth absolutely every penny, I say.P.S. If you're a tea fanatic and haven't tried the Breville yet, you've got a treat coming to you. My husband refused for 3 years to let me buy him one and only gave in with very poor grace a few months ago. It's now the favorite thing in his life (after me, of course!). Perfect tea, again and again, without having to wait or to keep track of time? Having it stay hot once it's ready, in case he got distracted and doesn't get back to it for a little while? He's totally thrilled, even after claiming furiously that he'd been making tea for decades and didn't need a multi-hundred-dollar machine to do it for him. Guess what? It's a luxury to be able to do something else while it's in the works and not to have to worry about it coming out right. He uses it three or four times a day. A huge win!

A small packet that really works
This works perfectly to clean the tannins and discoloration to the interior of the Breville One tea maker after repeated brewings. I was pleasantly surprised at how well a small packet worked. A good value for the price, it completely removed the stains. I would estimate that it should be used every 20 to 25 brewings.

Very effective cleaner
Very effective cleaner, which we use every few months to keep our tea maker clean and shiny. Most highly recommend.

Miraculous!
This product is nothing short of AMAZING! I’m embarrassed to say that I have owned my Breville tea maker for several years and have never properly cleaned it other than rinsing after each use (suffice it to say it was pretty badly stained - both the glass container and the basket). The directions were easy peasy: fill with water to 1500 mL, bring to a boil at 212 degrees, lower basket, toss in powder. After 5 minutes POOF!! No scrubbing - just a gleaming pot and basket. To ensure all the cleaning solution was gone, I rinsed twice as instructed (rinsed out pot, filled with 1500 mL water, boiled, lowered basket, sat for 5 mins, rinsed out, and then repeated).Thank you to all the commenters who sang the praises of this product (which shamed me into giving it a try :)).

Crazy good!
I should have taken a before and after picture. Drat. I bought this tea maker WAY back when, when it first came out, many aeons ago. You can imagine the amount of dark staining and stuff it had accumulated all around on bottom and in the basket. I used one packet of this, and it literally made the entire machine look like it had just been unboxed brand new for the first time. I don't know what's in this powder, and I don't think I want to know...but I can tell you one thing...it WORKS!

Epensive-Worth the Money-but I have a complaint
This product is easy to use, with one - important - caveat. The directions follow a developing - and ridiculous - pattern of tiny, low contrast printing on the product packet itself, rather than printing large fonts in contrasting colors on the larger, non-reflective surfaces of the outside box.I suspect that people who buy the most expensive, elaborate, single-purpose tea maker on the mass market probably do not have the best eyesight -- i.e., they are old enough to have put effort into selecting types of tea, given thought to preparation and serving styles, and have disposable income sufficient to support a hobby like this. Reading the instructions on these packets requires (for me at least) a magnifying glass and a light source that can be adjusted for brightness and angle because the packaging is so poorly designed from a user point of view. The product itself, once you memorize the directions (or print them out from some digital source), solves a number of problems. The Breville tea maker is very clever -- the carafe itself is apparently high quality German glass. There is a stainless steel pillar inside the carafe containing the tea basket dunking mechanism, and a high quality stainless steel basket with an unaccountably plastic cover and seal. There is also a secondary screen in the carafe cover (also stainless steel), to keep fine tea particles from finding their way into the brewed tea in the drinking cup. All of these parts can become scaled and stained, and if you brew multiple flavors and qualities of tea in the tea maker, the residues potentially adulterate the tea flavor. Breville does not say this cleaner is effective against scale - but it does a ecellent job of removing the residue from tea brewing. This cleaning product is represented as non-toxic, non-harmful to the tea maker parts, fast and effective. As far as I can tell, these are true - it cleans most of the parts (some of them hard to reach and potentially fragile (e.g., the temperature sensor in the floor of the carafe), and this product cleans them better than I could do you could with any other method I am familiar with. It leaves no soapy residue or foreign flavors or smells on the tea making surfaces.
