Minelab Vanquish 540 Pro-Pack Multi-Frequency Metal Detector for Adults with V12 12"x9" & V8 8"x5" Double-D Waterproof Coils (4 Detect Modes, Bluetooth Headphones & Rain Cover Included)

I bought this as a step up from my Garrett Ace 300 and Nokta Simplex+. The Simplex+ is okay, but I like it because it is 100% water proof and inexpensive, the Ace 300 does pretty good...it finds stuff. This is another level above both though. I took it out and found quite a few more coins than I normally do with either of the other detectors and the batteries were only about 1/3 drained after about 6 hours. It is light weight and work very well. Australian consumer protection laws make for a very good quality and warranty, do yourself a favor and buy one!

In it's price range, it's one of the best detectors on the market. My only gripe is that you don't have a choice between the small and large coil at the $299 price. I don't want the big coil that is included at the $299 price, so I had to pay $399 to get the package with both the big and the small coil just to get the small coil.

I've been using this detector for 2 months now and I'm completely happy with it. I bought the Pro Pack which came with 2 coils(8" & 12"), Bluetooth Headphones, a rain cover for the brain, and a velcro wrist strap. It has MultiIQ, which allows the detector to scan multiple frequencies simultaniously; 5, 10, 15, 20 & 40kHz! It also has a pinpointer feature to narrow the location of your targets. You can also discriminate out things that you want to avoid hearing. There are so many features that you won't find on other detectors at this price. This detector has obviously been designed to compete with the intro level detectors like the Garrett Ace machines. I have owned an Ace 250 for years. I found the Vanquish 540 to run quiter and ID targets more accurately and deeper than my 250. The Noise cancelling on the 540 is amazing. It runs very quiet on salt water beaches. I have to turn the sensitivity way down on my 250 to make it usable in salty wet sand. I have found coins as deep as 8 inches in wet beach sand with the 540. I can't get close to that with my 250. The only thing that would be nice to have on the 540 is the ability to use the individual single frequencies like I can on my Equinox.

Works very well with little learning curve to get started. Perfect for beginners and intermediate users. Also... it is very light and can be adjusted for small people. Perfect model for kids starting out. Good price for this level of performance! A+

Got this yesterday and air tested it. Which the 12” coil it would not detect a dime or a quarter no matter how close to the coil. With the 8” coil it was ok. Did some research on line and communicated with a man on redditt that had the same problem. He posted a video. Must be a bad batch of 540s or a bad batch of coils. Called Minelab service, left a message but got no call back. Sent it back to Amazon. If this is typical Minelab quality and service I am very disappointed.

Don't know a ton about metal detecting as it's been awhile. I wanted one due to living in a history Rich area and being a person who loves finds of the past. It's a bit of a learning curve for tones being what's what. But very simple functions. Has rain cover for the control to protect from the elements. Was easy to set up out the box. Can tune out the junk etc. So far happy with the purchase
