Refrigmatic MEGA, 2 in 1 Electronic Voltage & Surge Protector for Two Door Re...

Here in my new home in South Florida, I own several of these which I use for my expensive appliances such as my wine cooler, microwave refrigerator and Breville oven. Most electronics handle the surges in voltage okay but it’s the brownouts that kill them. Whether it’s a storm that causes your power to go up and down and you see your lights flicker or when everyone comes home from work at the end of the day and fire up the air conditioners and electric ovens or electric heaters, many times the power company voltage fluctuates and drops from 120 to 100 volts or lower. As you use your appliances and electronics, when the voltage drops, the current or amps increase which just fries your electronics. In the last three years I have lost my toaster oven, microwave, wine cooler and dishwasher main board. So I decided to look into solutions. These little protectors monitor the power and shut it down if it goes out of safe ranges. When the power is restored to proper range they turn the appliance back on. Some are even adjustable. These are super reasonably priced and provide a lot of value and peace of mind for the money. So far so good.

With most modern refrigerators, they are loaded with electronic control boards, lit touch panels, and so forth. A power outage, especially the type that goes out, and right back on are hard on your compressor as well as the electronic components. This unit, during a power outage, keeps the power off for several minutes to allow systems to be better suited to a restart. In addition this acts as a surge protector to further protect sensitive electronics from being burnt out or "fried" I have used these on our refrigerator and find them a good way to prevent high repair bills.

I experience a lot of brief power glitches, outages and brownouts where I live. My last fridge died twice when the power glitches fried circuit boards. I bought a brand new fridge and one of these Refrigamatic Mega Voltage Surge Protectors, and it's almost been 2 years without a problem. (Knock wood!) I saw this on a YouTube video and bought one right away - worth the purchase price!

I bought this device to replace a competing refrigerator surge protector that cost about half as much and served me well for two or three years. Recently, I came home from work and thought my refrigerator was making a clicking sound and beginning to warm up. I pulled it out of its alcove to investigate and discovered that the clicking was actually coming from the old surge protector, not the refrigerator. I unplugged the protector, left it disconnected for a few minutes, and then plugged the refrigerator directly into the wall. I was very relieved to find that the refrigerator was working normally and had begun cooling again. I did some research and learned that refrigerator surge protectors with time-delay circuitry are designed to protect the compressor when power is interrupted and then restored quickly. That is a recurring problem where I live. When the power goes off while the compressor is running and comes back on before the pressure in the system has had time to equalize, the compressor can be subjected to a potentially damaging restart. The time-delay protector prevents that immediate restart. The material I read described the protector as "sacrificing itself" to protect the refrigerator from taking the hit instead. As far as I know, my old protector had not absorbed any significant electrical surges other than those associated with our frequent brief outages and rapid power restorations. Nevertheless, it had apparently reached the end of its useful life. I ordered a replacement immediately, both because I wanted protection between my refrigerator and our unreliable electrical service and because I wanted to install it while the refrigerator was already pulled out of the alcove and the freezer was still fully loaded. Having learned how repeated power interruptions can eventually take a toll on a time-delay protector, I chose this heavier-duty Refrigmatic Mega model as its replacement. So far, it is working exactly as it should. I am hoping the heavier-duty construction will give it a longer service life than its predecessor. I gave it four stars because I have not yet had it long enough to know how well it will hold up over time. If our unreliable electrical service continues and this protector is still working three years from now, I would consider that evidence that it deserves five stars. For now, however, it is doing exactly what I bought it to do, and I am very pleased with it.

We had a bad electrical surge during Hurricane Beryl...it came right through our city north of Houston and messed up a few things electrical in our home. One thing it really ruined was our refrigerator with a surge. So, we had to get a new fridge and that's when we purchased this surge protector. Since we installed it, we haven't had any storms near that strength or with that much lightening etc. so I cannot speak for how it works during a storm or electrical storm, but it came on time, packaged nicely, looks nice and I am pretty sure that should we need it to work to protect our fridge, it will do it's job! Easy to install...just plug it in (of course lol). It also is a nice looking item.

Product seems to work as advertised. The start delay worked and I am counting in the device chopping voltage spikes.

So far it seems to be working okay (only a few hours). Our previous refrigerator was fried when the power was restored after a scheduled power outage. The only issue for this device is the placement of of the quick restart button. Our new refrigerator has one of those flat plugs where the cable is at a common 45 degree angle. That 45 degree angle has the edge of the plug going right over the quick restart button. I ended up adding a short appliance extension cord that points downward so that the button would be accessible and not accidentally pressed.

I like these point protectors. We have brown outs more often than I like and it is good to know that there is something protecting the compressor. Also we have a back up generator and it is helpful that on transition not all the loads in the house come back on at the same time.

Hasta ahora con buen funcionamiento. Son frecuentes los cortes de energía en la región que hábito. Y ha funcionado dentro de lo estimado. Restablece el paso de energía hasta que se estabiliza y permite y protege el funcionamiento del refrigerador.

Looks good, installed it and it did take a couple yof minutes to power back up. That's what it is supposed to do so all is good in refrigerator land. We will see what happens when the power goes out.
