Smallest stand for my Fat Tire bike! Excellent features!
Note: Not only can one adjust the black part, but the black piece can be removed and the stand can be further adjusted to get you to the exact height you are looking for. With that said, at the optimal angle, my heavy bike is fairly stable. I would guess it's almost as good as having a kick-stand, but not as good as a frame holder.

Good idea. But fragile and useless. DO NOT BUY and WASTE YOUR MONEY!
Hello everyone I recently purchase the Topeak flashstand Fat Bike Stand in January 2013 as compensation for a portable kickstand for my high end mountain bike. Since my mountain bike does not have a place to properly mount a typical kickstand. I thought this was a pretty good idea by Topeak. Just bring the stand with you on bike rides and attach it on the pedal of any bike as a kickstand in seconds. Although the idea itself was pretty good, many reviewers point out that the long black plastic on top of the kickstand supporting your cranks is very fragile. It broke for many reviewers and it inevitably broke for me right after I got it on my first day. TRUST ME AND OTHER REVIEWERS! The black plastic on top as the weakest part on the stand is supporting your whole bicycle weight!!!! Topeak should have made it stronger or metal as a better option for taking consideration of so much weight on a bicycle. Other parts such as the bottom legs are metal and the silver part are made stronger than the black place. When I was adjusting my pedal cranks to make my bike stand upright with Topeak's portable kickstand, the black plastic on top snapped off after my bike slanted a little. I try super gluing the black plastic together, but it did not help. Luckily, it broke on the first day and I called amazon staffs and they considered it a product defect. I was able to return it with free UPS shipping from amazon. THANK YOU AMAZON FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION:)) Some reviewers had it broken after months, so they are unable to return it. If yours broke in the first few days of purchase, you can still contact amazon for a refund because it is considered a flaw in the product. bought it, please look around on ebay or amazon for other options because there are kickstands which just might work for your mountain bike and plus they are cheaper and made of metal instead of plastc Try to look for kickstand which would fit near the rear triangle of your bicycle. PLEASE DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT IF POSSIBLE!!! If you really want to take a chance on this product, try to stand your bike more upright than slanted down on kickstand before puting your bike's weight on the kickstand. GOOD LUCK and comment on it. Read the Documentation
Purchased as a warehouse deal and wasn't provided with documentation. One of the legs was floppy, and I didn't understand how to adjust the height. I immediately got an Amazon return authorization. But it looked like such a solid device that I decided to secure the floppy leg with blue lock tight and downloaded the Topeak PDF. The easiest way to understand the height adjustment is to remove the plastic crank insert, revealing the slotted height mechanism. I then correctly adjusted the height adjustment spring tension screw and the unit was functional. It's a bit heavy and bulky to rationalize hauling on a performance mountain bike, but it works great with my fat bike while slogging deep sugar sand washes. It's amazingly stable, even in moderate winds, when the height is properly adjusted and the front wheel turned to ensure that the bike can't roll down or forward. Furthermore, it's a surprising pleasure having a stand while riding sandy washes or whenever I can't find rocks to build a crank stand or any tree/big rocks to lean against. It's definitely a keeper and worth the extra weight.

Nice Concept - A bit Impractical
I have a thick framed mountain bike with no kickstand or place to install one. I really liked this idea of a pedal stand when I saw it and thought it was a great alternative to just leaning your bike against a wall or lying it on the ground. The stand fit my bike's pedal shaft well and the bike did stand, but unfortunately there are limitations. 1. The stand isn't super sturdy, so a strong wind could easily knock it over. It would best be used as a stand for storing your bike in a garage rather than to use while outdoors after riding. Also, as it doesn't lock to the pedal, it could easily be stolen if you left your bike unattended. 2. Most importantly, the stand is kind of large and heavy. There is no way to attach the stand to your frame, so you basically need to carry it with you while your riding. When folded, it's about 6 inches long and 2 pounds, it's just too big and bulky to carry in a pocket or a seat bag. I guess if you have a basket on your bike or rode with a backpack you could manage, but when I ride I want to carry as little as possible. I do like the stand and the concept, but it seems impractical to lug it around every time I take my bike out. If they could devise a bracket to attach it to the frame like a lock or water cage, then maybe I would be more prone to use it. It's basically only for displaying your bike while in storage.

Fat is where it's at!
I recently bought a K2 mountain bike and with that I found out quickly there was no kick stand. I set out to get something and I found a kick stand that would mount to the back half of the bike but then again quickly found out that with this bike and disc breaks this style of stand was not an option. Doing some research I found The Topeak Flashstand Slim and Fat, I purchased the Slim based on the positive reviews and after receiving it found out that it could not support my K2 Moutain Bike. I then decided to give the Flashstand Fat a try, there were not many reviews so I was worried but I received it yesterday and I'm happy to report it works perfectly for my needs. Although the unit is slightly larger then the slim I think it's still compact and very portable. Not only is it compact one thing you really can't see is that the it actually extends to be about 1.5 times taller then you see in the picture, it also has an insert to be used or not used depending if you need it or not. I thought over all it was a really nice design and although metal and plastic I believe it will do the job it is ment to. I noticed in a lot of reviews the flash stand was being used for long term storage of a bike where I'm simply using it as a quick way to keep my bike up when I stop on a ride to rest or something more short term. In my trying it out I put it on my bike and gave the bike a few nudges and it maintained it's stabilty just fine. Overall I think it's a good product and worth giving it a try if you need a quick stand for you bike.

Fits a Trek Checkpoint
Very glad I discounted the negative reviews and rolled the dice on this product. Perfect fit on the Sram Apex crank of my Trek Checkpoint ALR 4 (gen 2) once I removed all black plastic adapter pieces from the stand. Bike rests upright at perfect angle which is very useful when loading bags and inflating tires. Sturdy, lightweight, easy to use and conveniently folds for on-bike storage (I carry it in bar bag for quick access at stops during rides).

broke forst time I used it
I bought this stand thinking it would be great. Nothing hanging down to catch on rocks or anything else while I rode the bike on trails and downhill. It even fit into my extra tube bag under my seat. Then the first time I used it while on a trail ride one of the two legs broke right at the place where it pivots and the metal is thin. The metal legs on this stand are very lightweight castings but they just are not strong enough to hold up the bike ( 15.5 inch Mongoose Mountain Bike) for any kind of use. The wind pushed the bike over and the leg broke it was not even a strong wind either. Neat product but it needs to be beefed up to last.

良い商品です
キックスタンドが取り付けられないマウンテンバイク用に購入。 思ってたより安定していますが、強度は弱そうなので慎重に使う必要がありますね!

Does the job.
Easy and lightweight, not overly small because of what it is but it fits in my inside jacket pocket. Props the bike up easily enough when you angle the front wheel. I wouldn't go off and leave it because a) someone could steal the stand and b) I could imagine a strong gust of wind could knock your bike over. But it's perfect for popping into a shop or stopping to take a picture etc. Clever, just fits on the pedal arm and you rotate it down to the ground. The arms fold in to put it away. Seems well built, easily takes the weight of my Montague Paratrooper Pro mountain bike plus electric kit I've got on it. It's adjustable also for height. Glad I got it.

Mountain bike pedal won't fit!
As title suggest most MTB pedal shaft diameter and clearance is rubbing against the opening slot. Pedal is Shimano XT fyi.
