Easy to use
Sanding discs drop off after so long could be the sander or it could be the discs?

Not up to the task
Not up to to the task of general diy. Lasted about an hour and a half before the sanding disk fell off. Very thin plastic disk is way too flimsy.

Random Orbital Sander - I use with a £10 speed controller. Not an aggressive simple spinner.
I bought this and use it with a ten quid speed controller, also from amazon… https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00HXDXBAI?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details which gives you the ‘missing’ control this unit needs, to make it usable both as a sander and a polisher/buffer. Allegedly, you want maybe 3,000rpm or less for a polisher/buffer, and more for when sanding. There’s a big difference between a true or orbital sander and this type of gentler random orbit device. This is not as aggressive, and so it may be you can use it at full ‘speed’ after all, for buffing-off headlamp yellow oxidation, and so on, after all. So, if you really are ripping off ugly rust rashes on a piece of metal, this might be a little too gentle? But, it’s probably in the right general area for any plastic/glass buffing/polishing, which is what I want. The speed controller I just leave about 2/3 way, which means this orbital unit is running half speed. And don’t expect it to spin round fast - the wobbly oscillations are fast, the actual rotation is not! I thought at first it was a dud, but there really is a big difference between a random orbital sander like this, and a true rotating orbital sander. An angle grinder is another stage more aggressive even, than that. Good velcro pad on it. Quite decent effort to remove/peel off a disc put it that way, never had one fly off or anything. Good unit, Black & Decker are extremely durable consumer products, have been for decades. Take care all.

Excellent value for money, perfect for home use
Built really well and does a great job with ease, especially for its price point. It’s a good size, easy and comfortable to hold and sturdy enough for most home DIY tasks.

ok...bit dangerous but lot of power for your money
way overpowered for its size, badly balanced, It can gouge worse than a belt sander with 80 grit on board, The disc guard can fly off with massive force- (it cut me a good un) It develops rpms way too quickly when lifted off the work surface at all, and the cable is too short.... but... For the price? for the work it can do? for round the house hobby stuff? BRILLIANT -cheap as chips and will do a LOT of work-my advice? cut he guard off as soon as it starts even looking like it might be coming loose when you are working- Keep it on the piece at ALL times and never even think about starting it without the disk pressed FIRMLY into what you are sanding!- unless you need a low torque super high speed rotary finishing/sanding wheel that is- and boy does it get up to speed fast!- hence the gouges...in both the mahogany and my hand when the guard came off! Its lots of tool for little money -maybe i got a bad one with nasty balance characteristics -but it seemed to be a symptom of 230W being put through too small a radius and too little weight spreading across the disc-(all on the shaft) it behaved more like an lightweight angle grinder than a sander! -maybe i got a bad one with nasty balance characteristics -but maybe you could too- be careful as always with all powertools! so...you get what you pay for- in this case efficiency, overall componentry and value is a WIN, safety, finesse, disc guard coupling integrity and in my case at least, balance too is FAIL. but im used to the odd skinned knuckle...so five stars! got the job done- and quick too! should be 180W or 200W max in a tool that size...the motor size across such a small radius makes it want to skip up off the surface around its own axis when it bites and with its tendency to spin up to high rpms very quickly when light sanding it tries to do this fairly often! I has a very fine bite point and the amount of pressure you apply whilst sanding needs to be very precise- too much- he sander digs and stops sanding- too little and itll spin righ t up and mark the piece- because of this you sort of end up doing more work tah the tool! constantly adjusting the pressure in waves to get an even finish- this is normal with these sanders but this one either wants to be dead stopped or whizzing like a flapwheel in a grinder and keeping it the zone is a pain- i have other orbital sanders that with constant and consistent pressure do not have these tendencies. the casing is also small so with large hands its awkward to get leverage to pin the thing down and it needs pinning down i assure you- you will wreck your work if you let its potential as a disc sander out even slightly- you have to either pull it off the piece of dig it in again REAL quick! - (im 6 ft tall ,not skinny and use much bigger sanders of many types quite often btw) overall- fast, powerful but s*** and a a bit more dangerous than it needed be. it turns out on inspection that the screws holding the velcro plate on have split away from their plastic housing- the sander still sorta goes but is now far too dangerous to use.
