MGW Precision Digital Caliper 150mm/6" DIGE150

This MGW digital caliper DIGE150 is excellent especially in this ~₹2K price range. Smooth movement and sturdy. Pros: 1) Stable readings, offset (zero reading) was stable even from factory and doesn’t need zeroing even after days. 2) All metal construction (even the battery cover is metal!). Stainless steel jaws and body. No play or any gap between the jaws at zero. Good finish, smooth sliding. 3) Accuracy is very good, but I don’t have anything better than 20u(0.02mm) to compare as my reference screw gauge gives only that accuracy. Most cases it is bang on matching with it. Cons: 1) The thumb roller is bit loose,( but not causing any issues.) 2) The documentation is lagging behind expectations. The supplied The user manual doesn’t seem to be for this model, no company name on manual, there are errors in description (eg: auto-power off is mentioned, but not available in this model) and the battery compartment screw’s description is completely missing. It is confusing as there are 2 screws side by side, it is the one on right side one (see photo). The accuracy is not mentioned, only resolution. Typically these have +/- 20 to 30um (0.02-0.03mm) error. (Even the “big M” company claims only +/- 0.02mm 😀) Good that there is a calibration certificate, but it has no date of calibration or serial number. The country of origin is a mystery, not sure if MGW company is Indian, as the cover shows a date of import. MGW seemed to have a lot of measuring instruments, so that is reassuring. Despite of all these minor issues, the product is excellent so far, will update more after some long term use.

One of the best calliper in the market in this price range..I am posting this review after almost 2 years of its purchase and it works perfectly..I just had to switch it's battery once.

We purchased this item after viewing the ratings and price. But we observed variations in accuracy upto 30 micron.Jaws are found defective

This is a good quality product (4.5 out of 5) feels heavy in hand, everything from the packaging to the caliper, even the box, everything feels solid, they have included a spare cell, the measurements also seem stable. My only complaint is that the screw that holds the cell cover is soft and the head got a little damaged (maybe I tightened it too much.) else this is perfect.

Well I didn't need it for thorough accuracy but for some generally accurate measurement. Decently built, but quality of finish or the material used is surely not up to the mark. The thumb roller isn't very smooth, the grooves aren't uniform on the stem. Sliding is not very smooth making adjustments a little difficult and annoying. The packaging inside the storage box is also a bit cheap and doesn't exude quality indicating that it's a well made precision measuring tool. LED display works fine with tact feeling buttons and readable display. Overall, it serves the purpose fine. But much can be improved on the above mentioned aspects. I am not sure of the accuracy though. May be this is what you get at this price point, I don't know.

I had bought a Chinese make vernier calliper earlier at half the cost of this one and realised what a grave mistake it was. It would show any measurement it liked after crossing 11 cms. This one, by MGW, is miles ahead in comparison. Firstly, the build quality is so much better than the Chinese one. You can tell it the moment you hold it in your hands. Plus, the movement is relatively smooth. It's still not up there with Mitutoyo but they cost 5x this one. The measurements are also reliable. I have checked known component dimensions and there's hardly any error. It also comes in a nice hard case, with a spare battery, a screwdriver for battery replacement, and a calibration certificate. I need reliable and accurate measurements for my projects and this vernier calliper fits the bill nicely without burning a hole in my pocket. Overall, I am really glad that I picked this one. Happy to support an Indian brand too. Definitely recommended !
