Mansfield's Book of Manly Men: An Utterly Invigorating Guide to Being Your Most Masculine Self

This book was given as a gift and I have given many other copies of Manly Men to young men. To begin with the book is a must read for young men, old men, fathers, brothers husbands, whom ever wants to bet a better understanding of what it means to be a man in today's culture. It is told in such a way that we can all understand what is being said and how to apply the advice. It is information given from a Christian worldview but anyone could make sensible application if they so choose. Stephen Mansfield has written many books and I think I have read just about all of them and It would do no harm for other men to do the same. Ladies, get them for your husband (and before you give it to him you would do well to read them yourselves) and he will love you more for it.

I breezed past this book for a couple years every time I saw it, thinking it was more of a comedic depiction of great men. I finally read a review about it, and was glad I did. Definitely one of the best books I’ve read on being real man. It’s so simply written, any guy can pick it up, read it, comprehend its contents, and come away completely equipped to become a real man. Great job Mr. Mansfield!

With all the "toxic masculinity" talk and the effect that is having on the men of our generation, this book is an absolute must read for every man on this planet. It is so important for men to learn what it truly means to be a real manly man. I read this book while on deployment with other sailors and discussed it with them in a book club setting and it was very beneficial and built brotherhood and camaraderie among the group. I feel that society is trying to get away from teaching these essential basic truths to the boys and young men coming up in life right now and that is wrong. We need to get back to the things taught in this book. Thank you Mansfield!

This book needs to be placed in the hands of as many youngmen as possible. A great list of maxims and instruction with examples to complete them. Today, men, males need this sort of push, edification, and shove to get them to react in their true inerhent selves. One of the best men's book I have read this far. This book has also given fuel for several things in my life. One, is, it has vaulted me to read more books on being a man.

This book is just a revival of the Christian Worldview which created the Age of Reason and the mind of the Creationist, Isaac Newton and the worldview of Tesla, who was raised by an Orthodox Priest, his father. All men used to understand that Virtue is essential to Freedom; that Vice creates Slaves, which goes back to the times of Ancient Greece and the Athenian Greek Masters. The neo-Marxist, neo-Freudian flooding of confusion onto our children (men are women) through twisted, evil-promoting literature which glorifies puerile behaviors and an objectification (hyper-sexualization) of people reduced to irrational rutting animal, has stripped our children of real heroes and virtue formation. Imaginary "heroes" are now the only "people" little children are exposed to, instead of the Real Heroes who formed their own culture. Of course, to collapse cultures you have to tear down the real heroes, make them into evil men so children will eject their brilliant ideology/Theology which created the greatest, most free cultures in the history of man. Now, our toxic cultures (no different than the homo-erotic Weimar Republic), forces pederasts and evil people like Harvey Milk, Che Guevara to be glorified in literature, and culture, by naming ships after them and splashing them all over in art/movies, and on t-shirts, so that children will embed Vice is Virtue and Slavery is Freedom and Boys are Girls for the NWO of complete slavery (socialism/communism). Gender confusion is rife, along with lack of father role model, so that boys will be totally emasculated, unable to mature, Revival of true history and true role models is essential to transmit culture and the Wisdom of the Ages, so that children have a clear understanding of what creates a flourishing, strong community, which is only built on the loving, moral Natural Family, so children can embed truth/Reality and be emotionally healthy, and learn to love all people. This books is based on qualities which made Western Civilization so superior and free compared to all other cultures: Christian Virtue. Virtue in males and females is essential to embed in young children, so it becomes habit. ( even pagan Aristotle knew this). The maternal and paternal instincts in children should never be perverted or destroyed or twisted, which is being done in our "skooling" system of mass indoctrination in artificial institutions--removed from Reality, the Natural Family. Parents are the true teachers and education should only be locally controlled always, and the State (schools) will only make slaves of the masses (Socrates). Biology does matter and God's Design is the only flourishing (free) design which is the only one which creates self-reliance (virtue) and individualism---the ability to think outside the State programmed box and mature and love the "Other", true diversity. Maturity is being able to love others, not just self (narcissism) and we have been raising puerile, effeminate males.

I know five star ratings are subject to skepticism, but for me, this book warrants such a rating. I thoroughly enjoyed the book from the first pages. The manly maxims were extremely motivating but the stories told of men in the past who illustrated these virtues were memorable, and inspiring. An unintended benefit: Something I did not expect when reading this book, was how many other books I would be pointed towards. Before finishing this book, I had already purchased and begun reading books by other authors that were either recommended, or just mentioned. I enjoyed them all as well. If you are looking for an excuse to let go of manhood, then this is not the book for you. Expect to be challenged, and inspired. While there is some content that is of a Christian nature, I believe that even if you are not a Christian, there is enough material here to be worth the price.

I can't remember exactly where I heard about this book, but I bought copies for the 2 men, (husband/son), in my life, and they just RAVE about it. They LOVE IT. All I can say is if you have a man in your life that is into "being a real man" - like really, (not a "metro-sexual" or some other modern interpretation of what certain people THINK a "man" should be, but a REAL MAN), this is the book for them. Now I know the "PC police" will probably resent that statement, but this is MY review and MY opinion, and I have a right to it. This is a good book to counter the "new idea" of what a "man" should be - THANK GOD. People say there is a "war on women," but I think the REAL war is on MEN, by trying to dethrone them and make them into wimps. Have you checked out most commercials today and how "men" are acting? Ugh! This book is not about that. It's about REAL MEN - you know like John Wayne, Allen West, the author of this book, and my Dad.

I am an absolutely ravenous reader, going through 60+books a year. I'm only through the first 1/3 of this one, but it is a very rare occasion for me to be reading through a book and to know I'm reading greatness. That's the only way I can put this. This work is a call to action, a call to greatness. In a world where masculinity is no longer defined, he puts words to it and shows how to defend it. He is Christian and I didn't realize this when I bought the book, and he uses Christian examples, but that doesn't detract from the absolute power that is packed into this book, if you are man and do manly actions

Very thought provoking, well written and entertaining. Highly recommended as both a contemporary and classical review of masculinity.

This was a really good book… Lots of short interesting biographies of interesting men and good quotes… Essentially, being a man is acting like a man; you become a man by doing manly things… The chapter on presence was profound

Eines der besten Bücher für Männer, die ich bisher gelesen habe. Lese viel von Ed L Cole und mag den "männlichen" Stil des Buches... So wie es auch sein sollte. Ich glaube und folge Jesus und finde dass jeder Mann dieses Buch lesen sollte, der als Mann, auch ein männlicher Christ sein soll, was man im westlichen Teil der Gemeinde Gottes nicht mehr so oft sieht...
