Well Made
The 1/2" Robert Sorby bowl gouge is well made. The handle is comfortable and solid. The steel is high quality and holds a good sharp edge even on the very hard and tough wood species.

So So
It's a bowl gouge so not much could be wrong. Hard to screw up a piece of HSS steel and a wooden handle but the factory sharpening though somewhat sharp looks like it was done fast on a grind wheel. It took me a few minutes to fix the shape and sharpness but it works fine.

It is Sheffield steel, what do you expect!
Fine steel, holds an edge well, sharpens easily. Very nice long hardwood handle, a pleasure to use.I would highly recommend it.

Awesome
I should point out that I'm fairly new to turning, but when I get into a hobby I tend to dive in head first. I started with some "beginner" turning implements, but quickly realized that they weren't worth the hassle. I upgraded to this Sorby bowl gouge, and what an immediately discernible difference it made. This thing cuts through green blanks with buttery smoothness, and handles dried stock with ease. Very well balanced and high quality overall, it holds an edge very well thanks to the HSS alloy. It's nice and long, which gives you plenty of leverage, and it handles very well.

I like my new Robert Sorby 1/2" bowl gouge
I was looking for a bowl gouge with a regular grind to get into the bottom of those bowls. This fills the bill plus it's heavy enough I'm able to reach quite a ways over the tool rest. it also seems to have an extra long fluted area, which would make it last longer. That part might just be an optical illusion, but I do like the gouge. I have many Robert Sorby tools.

The tool is a Robert Sorby, that says it all.
Seller shipped very fast, The tool is a Robert Sorby, that says it all. Sorby tools are the standard other turning tools are compared to. This gouge will last longer than me, I am sure. Has a great feel and turns well. Love the mass of it and the length.
