It doesn't look like some people know what they're talking about here...
At face value, this wouldn't usually be my sort of thing - superheroes, action - but there's so much more substance below the surface. It's complex, emotionally fertile, and the characters are superbly developed, fleshed-out, and that, combined with the acting of the actors and actresses, draws you in and carries the show along effortlessly. It's not about superheroes - it's about the selfish accomplished, flawed people who are revered as grandiose, megalomania... It works as an analogy for celebrity, fame, politics, and also as a commentary on technological advancements and vague precog imprints of an approaching genetic modification of humans and the repercussions that would have. It's also entertaining, cool, self-aware, and rather f'ing funny. I rate it. Others here saying there wasn't enough character development at the beginning and it felt a bit rushed... I don't agree. Whilst yeah it could have had a bit more development (or time) to allow us to bond with (or feel the bond between) Huey and Robin, for example, it was conceived and crafted and delivered so effectively, in such a way, that I don't think it mattered. Solid, very tight writing on this season. And it definitely isn't vile or crass as another put it. It's violent, in a comic book slapstick sort of way, and it's purposefully gross and cringy at times, but only to emotional or humorous effect. I don't know what the graphic novels are like, didn't even know the show was based on a book until I saw it in the credits on something like the second to last episode, but I imagine it's pretty faithful to the text with respect to what I've just outlined. Can see why it was Emmy nominated - not necessarily why it wasn't awarded, but I don't know what it was up against that particular year. Other shows I've ranted and raved about in recent years are Mr Robot and The OA, two absolute favourites of mine. This, this first season at least, has to rank up there with them for how it's kept my interest and attention. Maybe third place. Got to say, try it, drop your preconceived notions, give it a chance, you won't be sorry!

Superheroes falling from grace
I have been wanting to see this series for some time and I have to say that I like the idea of the less-than-perfect superheroes clashing with the ordinary world. This is not the world of Marvel Comics and it deals with the public's idols succumbing to the weaknesses of the flesh. There are a few reservations though such as the coincidence of Hughie and Annie finding themselves sitting on the same park bench and almost instantly opening themselves up to one another; and the women seem to accept the sexual abuse as par for the course. Whatever happened to the, "I am strong, I am woman" mantra? Despite these reservations though, I like this series and I am looking forward to series 2.

Brilliant!
Compelling and engrossing. The episodes are over an hour each so you need to set aside some dedicated watching time but it’s worth it.Great acting, scripts, effects and story.Even if you’re not a superhero fan, this show turns everything you thought you knew about the genre on its head.Better than Marvel by far!

Superb
Absolutely brilliantIf you haven't watched it buy it NOW, all three seasons so far are funny, violent, sexy and Karl Urban's best role to date, even better than his turn as Dredd.
