Safari Ltd.Ichthyosaurus Marine Reptile Figurine - Detailed 7.5" Plastic Model Figure - Fun Educational Play Toy for Boys, Girls & Kids Ages 3+

I just read they discovered a fossil of an immense icthyosaurus recently, so this was a timely acquisition. For my science class, I'm going to compare the ithyosaurus with modern dolphins. The students love it when I bring in models and/or figures of the animals.

2020 Safari Ltd. Icthyosaurus There really isn’t a lot to say about this figure, so this will be more of a mini review. First of all, there isn’t nearly enough marine reptile representation in the prehistoric figure market, so I applaud Safari for even offering an icthyosaurus. The sculpt is very minimalistic. There aren’t very many details, but there really doesn’t need to be. The smooth skin is perfect for a streamlined aquatic creature. That said, nostrils, large eyes, ear openings, and a cloaca have all been sculpted perfectly. The silhouette is gorgeous, and I love that they sculpted the tail swinging off to the right in order to give the illusion of motion. Where this model really shines is in the coloration. While simple, the coloration is very realistic, and looks quite stunning on the model. It’s very reminiscent of modern dolphins and porpoises. The eyes are done in gold with white highlights, and a black pupil. Unfortunately, the right pupil on my particular figure was apparently smudged while the paint was still wet. This icthyosaur is also much larger than I expected, measuring at over seven inches in length (about 19cm) from snout to tail. Even with the limited detail, this figure is a steal at the $8 price point. If you are a fan of ancient marine reptiles, you owe it to yourself to pick this one up!

I absolutely love this Ichthyosaur. I love how the colors remind me of an Orca (Killer Whale). I compared it to the Tylosaur from safari.

From the sculpt to the fabrication, a beautiful high quality figurine. Not many Ichyasaurs out there. Nice solid, weighty, durable, sturdy material and nice simple and effective paint work. Beautifully molded. Another must have Safari Ltd collectable.
