Forever tool
I use this thing every...single...day. After a week you wonder how you ever functioned without it. I upgraded from the original Wave from 20+ years ago. Yes the Surge is expensive, yes you could trade down to another brand and survive but the fit, finish and function of this thing is special. While you can get a lot of these tools in other models and brands, you won't get it all. There's just too much. The primary knife was razor sharp out of the box and fast and easy to deploy one-handed - I don't miss my EDC pocketknife! I especially love the full grip scissors. It took awhile to break-in the release mechanism for the t-shank adaptor. It comes with both a 4-sided file and wood saw. There's a sleeve included that holds whichever you're not using. I'll actually this wood saw at campouts to breakdown branches for fires, and the diamond file side of the 4-sided file to keep the primary knife sharpened. I also don't mind carrying this in my pocket everyday using the pocket clip that I bought separately. It's not heavy enough to pull my pants or be uncomfortable. That was a major concern of mine and I'm really glad I took the chance to try this multitool. I've since bought the Galvonox full-size bit adaptor, double-sided Wiha technician bit set and 30-piece Leatherman bit set. The flexibility of this tool set means I don't have to constantly run to my basement workshop to find a tool for one-off tasks. I've got everything I need in my Leatherman pouch. This tool is a beast, there's no compromise here. I'd considered the Wave+, Signal and Mut and Super Tool but kept finding reasons to come back to the Surge. No doubt there's a Leatherman tool for everyone but this one is now my forever tool.

I can not stress this enough - I really love this tool.
This tool is so much fun. It has a vast set of high quality tools that always come in handy. I got this tool because I kept finding myself in scenarios in which someone would need a tool and I would think “man, I wish I could just whip out that tool and look like a cool, prepared, handy guy”, and now I get to look like a cool, handy guy quite frequently. I’ve gotten to cut the tags off of shirts on demand, unscrewed screws right after someone someone declared that they were going to go inside to get a screwdriver, cut open boxes while friends were digging in their drawers for keys. It’s great. Everyone thinks I am so handy. I really recommend this particular model because it comes with an awl. Every now and then you need a tiny little pointy thing and the awl really does the trick. The best part is you can say something like “Oh, don’t worry, I have an awl” and you just know the whole room is saying “what the heck is an awl? This guy must really know his way around tools”. This absolute flex is 100% worth the extra $30 compared to the Wave Plus. There’s also other stuff that the $30 gets you. It’s bigger and heavier which is nice. Really sells the whole rugged no-nonsense tool vibe I’m going for. I’m also kind of poor do the fact that it’s heavy let’s me know immediately if it were to fall off my belt and really helps ease my mind. Pound for pound my favorite possession. Two drawbacks, though. The first is the stiffness, which many people have commented on. Once you open it, you’ll be like “oh man, how does this close? Is there a button?” Nope. Just force it closed. I know it feels like you are about to break it, but that just means it’s working. The problem goes away with time. I have been opening and closing this tool while I watch TV and after a few hundred opens its super smooth. The second down side is the black finish. It isn’t very good at staying on, which is a shame because the black is super sleek. The fact that so much of it has peeled away is not all bad, though, because it makes it look like I’ve used it for a long time which helps sell the aesthetic that I bought it for. Once again, I highly recommend this tool; it’s a total flex.

Great daily use tool!
After retiring my Leatherman Wave I have been carrying this daily as a maintenance man for a ski resort and pro golf course for about 4 months now and it's a great tool! Especially buying the accessories like the bits, extension and ratchet I haven't had to use my tool bags since I bought it. Being able to adapt and use 1/4" driver bits is a game changer! Yesterday I had a 2-ft long 1/4" drive extension with a 10 mm socket on my Leatherman to adjust the pocket door. Being able to switch out the wire cutting blades and switch between saw blades and the files is awesome and with the amount of aftermarket blades available you can cut anything.

Top of the line Leatherman Surge Multitool is pricey because it’s the best
I have had some break-in time with the new Leatherman Surge, and I like it. Definitely a full sized multitool in the hand, it is not light weight… and doesn’t try to be. I’m coming from a semi-full sized Gerber Truss that had locking levers that hurt and didn’t work well……the Leatherman is a huge step up in function, size, weight and about 3x the price. Clearly a high quality tool. In my opinion the top of the line Leatherman is worth the big price. I got the black finish and I like it…know the scratches will come...doesn’t bother me. Does make the inch & mm ruler markings etched on the handles a little harder to see, as others reported, but they are still visible. The outside flip-out normal blade/serrated blade/replaceable jig saw all come out pretty easy and lock…then easily unlock with the levers. Nice big Scissors not quite as easy yet, but may just need more break in time. The large sturdy pliers are excellent…and wire cutter edge is replaceable when it wears down…a very nice feature. The inside fold out tools also worked well. Their Leatherman replaceable bit screwdriver is quite clever and can be accessorized with the longer shaft attachment that accepts normal sized screwdriver socket bits, and a big assortment of Leatherman proprietary flat screwdriver bits. My Surge came with the premium holster that has nice slots to hold the file attachment for the saw holder, and another pocket that can hold a rack of Leatherman assorted screwdriver bits. It also can hold the long regular bit screwdriver shaft in a loop on the outside. Very happy with this big multitool.

I love it, but...
So I want to say if you're considering this tool definitely go for it. It is excellent. This tool has practically everything I used to use on my Swiss Champ plus quality pliers and a full screwdriver set if you order the "bit kit". It is generally very well built and very well thought out. Crimpers and the wire stripper are something my Champ didn't have. I really love this tool. Here's where the "but" comes in, it is stiff, very stiff. After a week of working it constantly it has loosened some. If you have weak wrists or hands this might not be the tool for you. I'm 215 and built like Mr T, I am not a weak man and I definitely found the stiffness frustrating for the first little bit. Mostly I find this to be a problem because it prohibits one-handed use. But after a week of just absolutely constant working the joints it has loosened to the point I can kind of open it one handed sometimes. I could very much see how this would be a problem for anyone that might be a little frail. Other than that minor problem it's a great tool and I can see myself getting probably decades of use out of this thing.

I've got a tool for that!
Love this tool. I was hesitant to buy due to the price and me always losing my pocket knives. However, the case i keep on my belt and I haven't misplaced it once yet. Probably just jinxed myself... anyway, it's a great tool. The blades came sharp and hold it for a while. The screw driver tool is great. I want to get the accessories for that part soon. Very happy with my purchase
