These are great for my kid, she learns new words and she likes doing them.

I’m an educator-love seeing students use these word ladders.

I bought these word ladders for my child (age 6) who is homeschooled. She LOVES them and wants to do at least one after every phonics lesson. We call them her 'word games' and they are her reward for finishing her phonics work.The words start out easy and get progressively harder as you move through the book. Unlike her phonics book which only gives the beginning and end words of the ladder, this book gives you the first word and clues (word definition + which letter to change) to help the child move up the ladder.My daughter doesn't see these ladders as school work, just as games. I love that she is excited to do them and is learning spelling, vocabulary, and phonics. It's a win-win!If you are using them with younger children, you could certainly give them a word bank for the more challenging ladders towards the back of the book :)I only wish the manufacturer had made the pages perforated since they are meant to be photocopied. If you are a homeschooler, you could also just slip the pages in sheet protectors and use dry erase markers so the sheets could be reused. I might take my copy to the local office supply store to have them take off the spine. It's just a buck or two and then the pages can be photocopied or put into plastic sleeves more easily. You could certainly just write in the book if you want to do that too.

I've been supplementing my first grader's school curriculum with some enrichment activities at home. Though I wanted to boost her academic achievement, I also wanted to ensure she would be engaged with the lessons at home, so picking the right learning resources was very important. I found the Daily Word Ladders (Grades 1-2) to be an excellent, fun, and creative resource. You can pace the lessons (which come in the form of reproducible word study lessons) according to your child's (or in the case of classroom teachers, children) aptitude and interest level. We work on two pages every other day, and my daughter has so much fun, she actually requests that we work on more than two pages at a time.The concept really is fun and engaging. Clues are provided that help a child figure out what the next word on the ladder is, until every rung on the ladder is filled. By keeping the mind engaged in a creative way and challenging a child to think of a word on his/her own, the activity becomes like a vocabulary game. Other skills are also built here such as phonics, spelling, and reading skills. The concept behind the book may appear simple, but the payoffs in terms of student motivation is very high!

My son loves doing these, and I feel like his spelling is improving without him even knowing it. He does a page everyday and it is one of his favorite parts of the school day. Most of the puzzles are easy, but there have been a couple I had to think about to solve. It does use some words that aren't all that common, so some kids might struggle to figure it out. I sit beside my son and help him come up with them when he needs, so that hasn't been a problem fur us. Overall I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a fun and easy way to improve spelling.

We home educate and my kids use these (different levels) daily before starting their curriculum. They’re excellent for increasing vocabulary, strengthening spelling and brain exercise. Love these books. Highly recommend! Don’t hesitate buying.

A great way to introduce kids to problem solving using hints. We use this in our homeschool as a extra independent language activity. My kids enjoy them!

英語ネイティブの７歳の娘が使っています。アメリカのアマゾンでとてもレビューがよかったので購入してみました。まず単語が「はしご」の一番したの段にかかれています。一段づつあがりながら単語を書いていくのですが、ヒントとしてその単語の簡単な意味と、その言葉を使った例文、変化させる箇所が書いてあります。例えば・・earとあったら、次の言葉は「what you do with cookies」というヒントと「change the last letter」というヒントをもとに「eat」という言葉を考えて書きます。次々に変化させていって（大体５〜７段くらいあります）最後の言葉ははじめの言葉と関係のある言葉になります。このページの場合なら、earから始まって、いろんな言葉に変化して最終的にnoseになります。そのほかは、spoon→forkやnew→oldなどです。単にボキャブラリーを書いたり覚えたりするだけでなく、知っている単語でも真ん中の文字が抜けてると思い出せなかったり、似たスペルでも発音が違うためになかなかおもいつかなかったり。全く知らなかった単語もほんの少しですがありました。日本人なら、中学1年生くらいで楽しめるんじゃないでしょうか？？とってもよかったです！

English is taught as a 2nd language in our home and this book provides a fun and simple way to encourage additional reading and writing activities as well as increase/review vocabulary words. No hassle learning.

親は英語を話せず、英語教室にも通っていない公立小学校在学の子です。英語学習開始、1年10か月目（小5の10月）,小3の12月から取り組み始めました。子供向けの英英辞典といった感じで取り組めますが、日本の公教育だけで英語教育を受けた子には、英単語は知らない単語が殆どで、たくさん出てきます。小4でこの本のK－1レベルをしました。7回も！繰り返しました。その後続いて取り組んでいます。K－1レベルを始めた時はとても嫌がりましたが、慣れてきたようで、今では日本の中2向けの問題集の方が嫌なようです。（英検問題を小5の初め（英語圏のワークだけで英語学習1年3か月目）にさせたら、リスニング満点、リーディング問題が全然解けなかったため、日本人中1向けの問題集を小5から始めました。小5の1月に英検5級受検、L＆R問題満点で合格しました）K－1レベルから、親の私も知らない単語がありました。でも、これをしていると、英語圏の絵本が読みやすくなりました。日本の中学生が習う英語は単語数が極端に制限されているため、英語圏の絵本を読もうとすると、知らない単語だらけで読むのがなかなか苦しいです。しかし、この本では、絵本に出てくるような単語が出てきます。英検3級くらいまでの合格をさっさと目指すなら、こういった英語圏のワークをしないほうが、早く合格していけます。英語圏のワークをする方が遠回りになります。英検準1級以上を目指したり、英語圏の本を読んで楽しみたいと思ったら、やってても損はないかなと思います。中高生など、時間の制約（入試）がある人には向かないと思います。小学生の内から底力をつけておきたいと思って時間があるうちに取り組むにはいいと思います。この本もコピーして7回繰り返す予定です。今は、小学生の為、こんな単語は中学の試験では不要なことを知らないため、文句を言わずしています（笑）そして、やっていくうちに知っている単語がどんどん増えていっています。中学生で習う単語はほぼ知っていて、高校生でも知らない単語を結構知っていると思います。それを生かすには、現地の小1-2の本を読むのがいいのですが、今はまだ幼稚園年長レベルの現地の本を読んでいるレベルです。英語が達者になるには、現地の本を自分でどんどん読んでいけたらいいと思うので、このドリルはし続けたいなぁと思っています。知らなかった単語をいくつか挙げると、tick＝時計のチクタクの音、tock＝同じく時計音、sill＝窓枠の下の部分や敷居、bale＝干し草や藁の一束・梱（こり）、tad＝少量・わずか、hail＝ひょう・あられ、bald＝はげた・草木の生えていない、sap＝樹液、dew＝露・しずく,sliver=破片、grin＝にっこり笑う、grim＝いかめしい、などです。英検で言うと、2級以上で必要なレベル。現地では小1－2レベルなのに…です。
