Works as advertised
I was skeptical if this would actually work. Now, I did do a couple of extra things to get the broken tap out. The part was finish painted and I didn't want to screw that up. Applied a small amount of lubricant, inserted the tap extraction tool and then inverted a can of compressed air to freeze the tap. The Tap was broken into 3 parts but was fairly easy to remove.

It worked. Saved $100's and hours of work.
Foolish me I buried an umbrella anchor in an 8” round 3’ deep hole and filled it with concrete. Only to find out the holes in the anchor plate did not line up with the umbrella base. It would have been an easy job to drill and tap new ones on a drill press. Much harder to do with a jury-rigged jig press. Four new holes, three of them tapped then [expletive deleted] the tap broke. I tried two “cheaper” options only to make things worse.Save your time and sanity and buy the right tool for the job.Oh, and check the holes on the plate before you dig the hole.

Walton Tools 18001 Tap Extractor set
This extractor tool set works great! I’ve been a Mechanic for over 60 years, and have been cussing broken taps for years. Not anymore! This Metric kit fits small to medium threads. Will also be buying an SAE kit next, before I need it for next time. They work that well! Grind flush, remove all debris, lube with penetrant, insert tool, back out broken tap, DONE!

Be careful, use them the right way!!
While they work, and do what they're meant to do, you should know that these things can be delicate, no matter what brand they are. If a tap is cross threaded or forced in, you'll probably overwork these. If there's too much metal to guide the fingers around the tap, you're not going to get much of a bite, so try and use a pick or a paper clip to jab some of the material down. These are mostly for those times where you twisted a bit too hard, but actually got the threads right, chasing a damaged hole, not making a new one. If the tap is really jammed in there, don't risk breaking your tap extractors, get a punch or sharpen a grade 10 bolt to act as one, and chisel the tap to break it away. Once these break off, it's a royal pain to clear it out with that super hardened steel tap inside, because there's nowhere for the broken material to go, so it's just going to stay put, and there's not many drill bits out there hard or durable enough to clear a tap out...the ones that do exist are pretty dang expensive, so be careful!

This did do the trick, but it was pretty twisted up trying to get into area I needed. Main thing is it worked!

Successfully removed broken 1/4'' tap
The tip of the tap was wedged in tight. I followed the directions - cleaned the chips out of the grooves with a dental pick and compressed air, applied cutting oil, then inserted the fingers as far as I could, which was about an 1/8 inch. I secured the sleeve until it contacted the surface, lightly tapped it with a hammer and punch to get it snug. I tried turning it both ways, also applying downward pressure until the fingers bent and then slipped out. Ground off the bent finger tips, tried again. Third attempt it freed up and came out! Much easier than other methods I've used.
