I calculated the cost of buying each item separately, and it turned out to be significantly more expensive. Love this kit, very cute jar & cover, instruction guide went through step by step which made it so easy to get going on our kombucha home brewing adventure, scoby was smaller/thinner than expected but just bottled our first batch and it came out great! Had a small issue with one of the bottle caps but customer service was super responsive & helpul!

This is a really great starter kit. The instructions are simple and easy and it makes it really hard to mess up. I had a great looking scoby and had everything setup and going in no time.

I just started my first batch today so we will see how well it turns out in the next week or two. I wanted a kit that included everything I needed. I did not want to have to order separate things as I didn't know what I needed to even begin, this kit helped alleviate a lot of that stress. I read the reviews and product information and did some research online to determine want I needed and if this kit included all the items other people were using. I ended up determining that it did as well as liking what the company represented. The package came about a week after I placed the order. Everything that was listed in the instructions was in the artsy box (which we enjoyed) and the scopy seemed to be healthy (I'm a novice so my understanding of what it should/shouldn't look like was extremely low). The instructions were clear, concise and I did not question what I needed to do to get it started or what to do when it's done brewing and afterwards to reuse the scopy . I'll be utilizing the instructions for the foreseeable future since they are extremely beneficial. The only thing I needed aside from what came in the kit was bottles to pour the kombucha in once its complete, not a big deal as I can order some. They do have a deluxe kit that comes with everything you need to bottle if you want to spend that money. I felt I could find them cheaper than what they wanted so I did not go with that kit. All in all I would highly recommend this starter kit for anyone wanting to learn how to brew kombucha!

I received this, made my first batch, but the scoby never rose to the top. I contacted the company and it may have been too chilly in my house or it may have been a bad scoby. Regardless, they immediately sent me a new one, the scoby floated and I've made several wonderful batches since. While the instructions make it easy to figure out how to make and bottle the kombucha, expect to spend a few batches finessing it the way you want. I like flavored kombucha, but I really love the carbonation. It took a while to get it to the point where the tea wasn't too vinegary, the flavors were prevalent and the carbonation was spot on. But now, I've got it. On the whole, the Home Starter Kombucha kit took 95% of the guesswork out of the brewing process, and I'm saving a bunch of money making it myself.

I first got the kit with the jar, scoby, lid, tea, sugar and instructions, and could not have been more pleased with how easy it was to start brewing my own kombucha. The scoby is very healthy and good sized and kept fed has turned into a little workhorse. The jar is marked with measurements on the side, is a great shape to help grip when moving it, has a pour lip which I really like to keep mess to the minimum, and is just too cute with the bee embossed on the front. Instructions are clear and easy to follow. But I realized after a few weeks that I needed another one gallon setup so that I would not run out of kombucha waiting on the next batch to brew. I was happy they sold this simpler kit because I just loved this jar. This is a great company whose kits yield consistently great results!

Received this item and the box stated that I had to go on their website and enter the 6 digit code to claim the fresh scooby to start the kombucha process however, I cannot find a 6 digit code anywhere.

I waited to do a couple brews before writing this review. The scoby was small and the first bag it was inside leaked, but the sellers had double-bagged it so it arrived alive and healthy without any spillage. This lovely little scoby has now grown to fit the whole jar and it's also become about 2+ inches (5 cm) thick. I had to make her dormant for 6 weeks and she withstood that as well. The jar itself and the bee-themed cover make my brewing seem a tad more professional than the random glass pitcher I was using before. My 12 cups of boiled water x 6 black tea bags x 1 cup of sugar recipe do not fill the jar so you could even go for a smaller size if you need.

It is so useful and great to star making kombucha, I just love it.

This arrived damaged, the scope was almost dry as all the liquid spilled from the bag and every thing was wet and couldn’t read the instructions were damaged in the book
