Not what they used to be!
Here's the thing, ExOfficio used to make a WONDERFUL pair of pants. I bought a pair last year that are my favorite hiking pants. Then this year they decided to make some changes - that were all serious down-grades. I bought another pair this year and it was so terrible that I called ExOfficio directly thinking I had received a knock-off. Imagine my surprise when I found out that it was not a knock-off and all the changes were actually intentional. The pair I bought last year is awesome, I paid over $50 for them and I'd do it again. The pair I bought this year is more along the lines of discount sporting good store clearance rack - I'd be upset if I paid more than $20 for them. If you can confirm that you are receiving last year's pants - go for it, those are awesome, I'd give them 5 stars. If you are getting this year's model - I can't recommend that you spend that much money on them! I give those pants 1 star, I might be persuaded to 3 stars if the price was more reflective on their quality. If you can't confirm either way, well it's up to you to make that gamble.Item 2021-1411 is last year's pants - for short I'll refer to it as #1411. Item 2021-2428 is this years pants, they will be referred to as #2428. The picture you are looking it for this listing is #1411, not the current model of pants for this year. Here's a list of the changes made and why I can't recommend these any longer:The closure on the waist has been downgraded. Item # 1411 has snaps that extend out 2 inches and are not parallel with the zipper. This is because a 3rd button on the inside liner is placed above the zipper. Item #2428 has the snaps in line with the zipper, no 3rd button.Item #1411 has dark felt lining the waist with 3 seams; top, bottom, and middle. Item #2428 has only 2 seams; top and bottom, and a lighter felt material.Item #1411 has wider belt loops with 4 seams (more reinforced), Item #2428 has thinner belt loops with only 2 seams (less reinforced)The back belt loop on item #1411 is very wide with contrasting white stitching. The back belt loop on item #2428 is the same as all the other belt loops, no contrast stitching.Item #1411 has zippers that don't show the teeth when closed, a black fabric pull attached to the zipper and contrast stitching. Item #2428 has no contrast stitching, no fabric pull and a cheaper-looking zipper that shows the teeth.Item #1411 has zippered pockets on both sides. Item #2428 has one zipper pocket, one velcro pocket. The velcro is not cut very well, looks cheap.Item #1411 has significantly stronger and more reinforced seams throughout the pants.Item #1411 has a much different cut of pocket, it's more open and easier to slip your hands into than what is on #2428Item #1411 has the ExOfficio logo on the snaps used to roll the pants up, item #2428 has plain buttons with no logo.Overall the fit on #1411 is great. When I tried on #2428 my husband immediately pointed out the front-wedgie it gave me. I'm really frustrated that I thought I had finally found 'the pants!'. I would have bought these repeatedly, in every color offered, and recommended them to lots of people. Now, not so much. I returned #2428, and I'm back to looking for a comfortable, attractive, and quality-made pair of women's hiking pants.

Not the cutest, but functional and comfortable
I bought these for travel to a hot but conservative country. I have a couple other Ex-Officio items, and my husband has several as well, so I knew these would travel well, and I got them for a good price. They fit exactly like they do on the model; a little high through the waist, wide through the hip and leg, which isn't the most flattering look, but it's not terrible. Be aware, if you get the light khaki color, these are not the pants you want to wear with your best hot pink underwear; they are a little on the sheer side like a lot of Ex-O clothes. Nothing a pair of nude underwear won't solve, but still something to be aware of when packing for a trip. They are very, very light, and roll very, very small to pack, which is awesome, and they have a ton of zipper and non-zipper pockets. The roll-up feature is nice, and the legs are wide enough that you actually could roll them down without being bothered to death by the little strap that hangs down. These aren't going to make it into heavy rotation in my day to day wardrobe, but they will be a travel wardrobe staple.ETA: These traveled exactly as well as I expected. Rolled up small, washed well in the sink, dried quickly, and were not as ungodly hot as I thought they'd be (I guess the thinness comes into play there). I didn't really use any of the pockets, but whatever. Also a nice touch; the waistband is lined in a different fabric, which aborbs sweat really well so you don't get sweaty spots around the top. Very happy with these.

Perfect in every way BUT one!
Bought a pair of these Ex Officios[[ASIN:B0043EVSBO ExOfficio Women's Nomad Roll-Up Pant] recently in the khaki color for hiking; the fabric will be great in warmer weather, like the pocket placement with zippers and snap waist. I have about a 31.5" inseam and these are long enough too. One of the reasons I selected these over other brands was the convertible pant snap up - it looks good and the annoying zipper doesn't rub across the leg.Perfect in every way BUT ONE: they are wierdly tight across the front in upper thigh/lower crotch area yet there is plenty of room at the waist. I am not pear shaped - in fact, mine is the straight body type. So I don't understand this, especially for a cut that is supposed to be "relaxed fit." Wondering if once a few pounds of winter weight are shed that these will fit better or should just be returned. Decided to make the trek to REI to try on several pairs of hiking pants in various brands for comparison - this tightness seems to be particular to the Ex Officios - Hope they are listening to customer reviews because I really like everything else about these!

Meh
I bought two pairs of similar pants for my recent trip to Costa Rica. The other pants were Prana Monarch. I ended up liking the Prana better, even though the material was thicker. These pants performed OK, and I liked the material, which feels soft, thin and silky. They also dried relatively quickly, and folded very small. There were a few cons though:- They are cut for women who are straight as a board. I have hips, so the waist for the ones that fit me was huge. There is no elastic or string at the waist, so I had to wear a belt.- The cut is simply not flattering, and the color is kind of drab- When the pants got muddy, the mud kind of stuck to the material, so it wasn't that easy to wash out in the sink- They wrinkled in the suitcase, which I would not expect of this kind of materialBottom line... because they're so thin, I will use them for stuff like kayaking or where you're likely to get wet, but will not re-purchase.
