Great introduction to Baby-Led Feeding
OVERALL: Really like and would recommend this as a good intro. This was a very easy introduction to Baby Led Feeding. Especially helpful was the breakdown of each type of food and how to prepare them for best success. There is a nice review and quick reference for emergency support if choking. There is a very nice diagram that should be laminated and put in your kitchen for serving size whether your baby is at the Plamar or Pincer grasp stage. It discusses preparing baby's plate, which is nice because there are suggestions out there to introduce just one food at a time. Drawbacks: It would have been nice to have just a couple recipes in each section to help really be able to get started, although there are options to serve foods singly. Organizationally, I would have liked to see the allergy section and the "foods to avoid in the first year" at the beginning of the book up perhaps with other emergency and health concerns like choking. In my mind some allergic reactions and choking are on similar playing field. Portion sizes and frequency would be helpful to know. For instance, as a working mom I am not comfortable letting daycare handle this when my little is just beginning...is it important to offer three meals, is one fine, two, since it is for practice and baby is still getting most calories from milk?

Great resource for first time parents wanting to do baby led weaning
This is a great book for any parents starting out with baby led weaning. It covers three main topics I think parents are most concerned about when it’s time to start solids: 1) choking vs gagging 2) introducing allergens and 3) how to properly cut and serve food to baby. It is a fun and short read as well. It helped me to not feel so nervous about BLW and to realize that there are so many easy ways to incorporate baby in meal times with the rest of the family. A lot of the advice in the book is very straightforward and common sense, but it helps to reinforce that from professionals. Now my baby is 8 month old and has been on solids since around 5 months. I’ve found it’s so easy to just make a modified version of what we are already eating to give to baby and this book tells you how to do that. I definitely recommend and will be passing this book onto a friend of mine who wants to do BLW.

There is some good info, but very basic.
I liked this book, but did not love. I ended up giving it away because I felt like the information in it was VERY basic and did not touch on a wide enough variety of foods. I would say for the very anxious parents trying to do BLW, it may be good information but it just seemed like all the basic information I had already read in forums so I did not find it as helpful as I'd hoped.

This book was just what I was looking for. I didn't want recipes or how to make the perfect puree - I wanted to know how I can encourage baby to become an independent eater, and give her all the nutrients she needs when she needs them. There are chapters which are short, to the point, evidence based: e.g. how and when to introduce different textures; how to balance the meal (protein/fruit or veg/carbs); how to encourage baby to feed herself, and when to tell she is ready for the next stage. Also a chapter on the motor development and when you can start to progress to a different portion size safely. Before I had this book I had started to puree everything and exhaust myself by buying endless pots, putting this in the freezer, buying pouches - but I feel like I've been set free! I have been using the book for about two weeks and this morning baby tried a bit of my boiled egg while we happily ate breakfast together (she's just six months). She is already able to pick up bits of food and feed herself. This book has just given me the practical tools to feed my baby and managed to free up my time because now when I eat, she eats and I have actually stopped having worry about whether I have puree in the fridge - and of course it's one less thing to stress about! Highly, highly recommend this book. Be warned: this is NOT a recipe book - if that's what you're looking for I would recommend the traditional Annabel Karmel book (which I also have).

I purchased a few BLW books and this book was the best. It is easy to read, practical and informative. It provides guidance on how to cut/serve food to a baby new to BLW through to toddler age. It gave me confidence to start the process. Bub is thriving and loving his food. I highly recommend this book
