Beginner Cross Stitch Kits - one Butterfly Kit and one Fish Kit for Ages 6+ Kits include: Cross Stitch Mat (plastic, plain)-size 5.5" x 5.5" with a Fish or Butterfly design on a cardstock sheet same size as the mat, a plastic needle, and 5 colors of yarn. Have fun making the cardstock design on the plastic mat. To begin cross stitching - there are 2 methods. First method is to work a row of half stitches, then work back to complete the X's. Use this method for most stitches. The second method is to complete each X as you go. Use this method for vertical rows stitches. It is important that all of the X's are crossed in the same direction. That is, the top thread of the X should always slant in the same direction. It does not matter which way they are slant, but if they are mixed, the finished piece will look uneven. Your stitches should lay flat on your fabric and not distort the holes.
