Can you put a mattress in without a box spring?

The seller recommends a box spring with this frame. Also, because of the space between the headboard and base of the bed, it’s better for the mattress to sit higher to hide that.

Does the gray color looks true to the picture or darker or more beige? Andnisnit velvet?

It’s Not beige. It’s grey. I’d say it’s not the velvet you think of for drapery but it’s got a soft hand. More substantial than velvet.
