Firestarter: Two-Movie Collection

I love it

I usually like the 1st film over the second by at least half. But with these two films, I say the first one has a SLIGHT edge over the second one as I see it. Largely because Charlie is a little girl and I really cared for her. Both films are great though. Very interesting and heartfelt and part 2's ending was unpredictable which I appreciated. Part 2 is actually like a sequel of a remake of Firestarter. It has NOTHING to do with the first movie. That's not a bad thing in my opinion. I highly recommend seeing BOTH films.

Firestarter is a cult classic (well for me it is) and the movie was just as good as I remember it. The purchase, however, was better than I could've expected. I believe I paid less than $5 for this movie and it was brand new, in the unopened package and still plastic wrapped! Additionally, it came with an additional movie, Firestater 2(which I haven't watched yet but anticipating it will suck considering most sequels do and I never heard of this particular sequel) at such a low price. I'm more than happy. No issues with shipping, came quickly. Very happy.

If you are a Sci Fy buff, then the original "FireStarter" is a must for your collection. I rate this movie right up there with the original "War of the Worlds", "The Day the Earth Stood Still", and features like "Creature from the Black Lagoon". The movie doesn't go "Over the top" in describing the plot and has some great acting by some [Now] big name actors."FireStarter #2" is a good sequel although in my opinion the plot is a little far fetched. But for a Sci Fy movie it's enjoyable watching and makes for a good addition to a collection.

I can not even count how many times I watched this movie as I child. I have always found it fascinating. The basic plot is that a little girl ( Drew Barrymore) is able to start fires with her mind. I don't like too say too much in order to avoid giving anything away. I am usually not much of a Sci Fi fan but I like this movie.

Firestarter is a novel by Stephen King that came out in 1980. This was the same year that Stanley Kubrick's critically acclaimed adaptation of the Shining came out and Hollywood wanted to capitalize on anything that King churned out. On the surface, Firestarter isn't that unique in King's literary universe. Charlie McGee, the titular firestarter, is a girl born with pyrokinesis - the ability to start fires with her mind. Characters endowed with ESP like abilities is not new territory for King as shown by stories like Carrie or the Shining, although Firestarter has a component the other two did not. Unlike Carrie White or Danny Torrance, Charlie McGees abilities are the result of government experimentation which draws its influence from real life events such as Project MKUltra. For this reason the story takes on a much more realistic tone of government distrust and manipulation of it's people to reach their goals. It's a gripping tale that unfortunately didn't translate so well into the film medium.The first Firestarter film has become something of a horror classic primarily because of it featuring a young Drew Barrymore. Compared to other film adaptations of King's stories that feature psychic characters like Carrie or the Shining Firestarter isn't quite as bright. The movie follows the basic plot of the story well enough and for what it is it's an entertaining film. What follows in the sequel though makes the first film look like the Olympic torch by comparison.Firestarter 2: Rekindled was laughably bad, and in that regard I'd recommend it. The story picks up with Charlie McGee as a college student going under an alias to maintain anonymity. While living her new life she encounters an accountant tasked with the duty of tracking down people who took part in the experiments her parents were in to give them a settlement check for their suffering. Little do they know though that the settlement checks are all a ruse to eliminate the former test subjects... for some inexplicable reason. Oh and Rainbird, the Native American assassin from the first film, is still alive though older and crippled from nearly being burnt to death by Charlie in the original story. He now heads a department that is breeding a new generation of psychics to sell to buyers such as the military, but he still cannot let go of his obsession for Charlie. Dennis Hopper makes an appearance as one of the original test subjects seemingly to assist Charlie but at no point is it ever made clear what Hoppers function is in the movie. His power is that he can see the future, yet for some inexplicable reason he is vague with his revelations and does literally nothing to assist the main characters with his powers. Sadly, he isn't alone in the aimless character department in this movie. What was the point of the psychic kids that Rainbird was grooming? Not one of them had any kind of emotional depth and only was memorable for the sole reason that he actually did something.I'm being hard on it, but it's actually fun to laugh at. I'd recommend adding this to your collection so long as you don't expect to be blown away by it. While these aren't necessarily great movies its hard to say they weren't influential when you see the success of shows like Stranger Things today. Hope this review helps you decide! Enjoy!

I love the survice

I loved both movies. Drew Barrymore in particular did a fantastic job.You've got to wonder why Americans make so many TV shows featuring some government agency gone mad. This is another example, along with Nikita, Buffy, Stargate SG-1, 24, etc.
