USB to 4 Pin Firewire IEEE 1394 Cable (Silver)

This is a USB to IEEE1394 cable. The data packets for each do NOT equal. Unless your computer has the 1394 chipset for decoding the firewire signal, your computer will NOT recognize the data being transmitted to it. In other words: Your DV camera will not ever be recognized by your PC with this cable if your PC or laptop does not have the appropriate chipset. I have not found where this was mentioned anywhere by StringLab or Amazon. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. Buy a new Mini DV camera/player with a usb output or a cheap computer with the 1394 chipset.

Firewire and USB use two completely different data transfer protocols. Don't get duped like me into thinking you can just download a special driver and everything will work fine. It won't! While there may be some newer devices that support transfers over this kind of wire at reduced quality, the majority of firewire devices will not have this feature.
