Famed for recording the main theme to 70s music television staple, Soul Train, as well as providing the backbone to Philadelphia International's era-defining Philly Sound through other label mates' respective releases, instrumental group MFSB (Mother Father Sister Brother) also maintained a steady output of their own throughout the decade. With no less than 30 members accounted for within their back catalogue, MFSB's very name gives credence to the grassroots appeal of the Philly Sound which established the framework in which disco would emerge and once again redefine R&B in the 70s. MFSB's third LP UNIVERSAL LOVE (US #44/R&B #2), released in 1975 on Philadelphia International, continued to establish MFSB as a mainstay within the Philly Sound era with the help of pioneers Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff and other regular fixtures within Philadelphia International's creative team.

MFSB at Its Best!
MFSB’s third album released in 1975 containing among others, their magnificent hit “T.L.C. (Tender Loving Care)”. Resulting in a nice balance of hard driving horn based “Philly sound” and smooth ballads, “Universal Love” is arguably MFSB’s best album.

WONDERFUL OLDIE BUT GOODIE
My Brother only listens to the best and this he says is the best of the beginning of that New Sound that came out in the early 70's. Even though this album is 35 years old it was well produced, has excellent instrumentals and overall is a very awesome quality of music for that era.

New Sounds But Love Stays
The sound that set them apart begins to evolve into something that's more pop oriented. But some of their soulful side still manages to be heard on "Sexy"; "Love Has No Time Or Place"; "Let's Go Disco"; and "My Mood". MFSB's fine musicianship brings out the best in these eight tracks and leaves me with a good feeling. A sixteen page booklet with detailed background information, discographical annotation, and two black and white photos of MFSB is included. The music that MFSB made together is a testament to "Universal Love" expressed musically through black and white together.

40years on........
Thanks to bbr remasters for releasing this absolute gem of an album from the Philly vaultsI have the original US vinyl release on Philadelphia International with a gorgeous gatefold sleeveIt would been even better to see a similar digipack cardboard release on this remaster! Good that it's availableTo us once again. Beautiful lush production from the session musicians behind MFSB. A must have in your collection together with The album ' Summertime' 5 STARS KJee was HUGE hit in the jazzfunk clubs long before it featured on Saturday Night Fever which over commercialised 'disco' for the massesLongevity is always the test /survival of good music and this is no exception to that rule.MFSB still so chic and cool 40 years on
