Tasting notes by Master of Wine Ronn Wiegand. We aged the wine for 6 months and 2nd and 3rd year barrels that yielded a dry, supply aromatic wine. Rich on the palate, yet extremely elegant with notes of freshly cut green apply, pineapple, tropical fruit, passion fruit, vanilla, white peach, apricot candy, candied lemon peel. The volcanic terroir contributed to the intriguing minerality, nice complexity, well-balanced acidity, and a lingering finish of this wine. Partial malolactic fermentation. Limited Production, only 100 cases produced. Vineyard & Vinification: Grown on our high-elevation, grand cru site yields well-structured wines with excellent depth and character. We harvested the grapes for this wine on October 20th and November 3rd in the Király, making an extremely careful selection. Erzsébet Cellar, was founded by the Prascer family in 1989, after the Soviet occupation. A family owned and operated boutique winery producing approximately 1,000 cases/year. In 2009, their 2003 Aszúeszencia received Gold at Decanter World Wine Awards. Their vineyards on Mád Mountain are the only Grand Cru designated area in Hungary. The soils are compact clay and Rhyolithe volcanic base that has chunks of black obsidian. They use traditional presses in their process. Their over 300 year old cellar is located in the heart of the historical Tokaj village. The Tokaj wine region dates back to the 1720's. The cellar was previously owned by the Russian Wine Trade Company that established the cellar to provide the Poland's Royalty, the Court of Russian Czars and the Czarina Erzsébet (meaning = Elizabeth) with noble Tokaj wines. The Pracsers believe in and practice natural farming to protect the environment and people, as well as, minimal intervention in the winemaking process to ensure the characteristics of the terroir and fruit are revealed. Their large estate allows the nature of each vineyard to be expressed through the grapes it produces.
