Branches of Government (Government in Action!) Library Binding – September 1, 2004

This is a good first book to explore how our government works. First, several forms of government are discussed, such as dictatorship and monarchy. Secondly, a brief history of how the Constitution became the United States plan for government is explained. Then the three branches of the U.S. government are explained separately. The Electoral College is briefly mentioned and the term "checks and balances" is explained. Many excellent photographs accompany the text. A table of contents, glossary, website discussion, and index are included. This would be a good book for fourth through sixth grade students.
