Extremely versatile, high quality razor that works great for body hair grooming
I am really pleased with this razor for the following reasons: 1) it works amazingly well as a body groomer, with multiple hair length options, including one for sensitive areas, 2) the charge lasts a long time and the rapid charger that's included recharges the unit very quickly, 3) it is reasonably priced and is of high quality, 4) for face shaving, it works just fine, although it is a little tricky trying to get those whiskers under your nose, where a more narrow razor head would be more effective. I am very pleased with this purchase and would buy again.

Excellent Close Shave
Comfortable, lightweight, incredibly easy to clean, very ergonomic grip, excellent battery life. The trimmer attachment is fairly lame. It isn't a very effective trimmer at all. They needn't bother with the collection of guards they provide because you are pretty safe from it trimming too much! I have a cheap Wahl trimmer that uses disposable batteries that is far more effective. That said, the shave is closer than a blade, yet very safe and comfortable even with my sensitive skin. As far as I know, this is the least expensive Braun that's manufactured in Germany instead of China. I haven't owned the shaver long enough to evaluate how long the coil/cutting block lasts, Braun claims 18 months. My past experience with Braun and Remington is that foils develop holes and become unusable in a about 6 months. Even if this foil lasts only 12 months that would reduce the operating cost by half! By the way, beware of Chinese imitation foils on Amazon. Unless you look extremely closely, you won't realize that these are not manufactured by Braun. To be safe, look in the Braun Store in Amazon. The German made foil will set you back $35 instead of the approximately $20 of the look-alikes. Intuition tells me that this hyper-close and comfortable shave is largely due to the quality of the foil/cutting block assembly. Using the cheap foils would be kind of like putting cheap tires on your BMW. Your car wouldn't drive, handle and stop like a BMW any more.

OK shaver
Updated 9/19/23I upped the rating to 4 stars. I'm going to chalk issues up to my face and beard. It shaves my head nicely. I need to wait 2.5-3 days between shaves to get good results on my face.Updated 9/8/23After a couple of weeks, it’s not shaving nearly as good as it did initially. It irritates my skin, pulls whiskers. I keep it clean, charged, and always use a pre electric shave. I might be sending this one back.—Original Review—I have an incredibly sensitive face. Even safety razors irritate, though not nearly as bad as cartridges. Below will be considered heresy to safety razor purists. The first time I used this shaver...I was NOT impressed. I used shave soap and there were lots of spots I had to hit with my DE. I tried dry shaving with it. I did not like it. Irritated my face. Then I bought Lectric shave pre-electric shave. This is a game changer.I have two recommendations for shaving with this unit: Use some sort of pre-electric shave product. Not shaving cream or soap. Don't press hard when shaving. Take a little time and just keep shaving. I still hit problem areas with a blade, but the whiskers aren't visible. I just want it a bit smoother.Rinsing the head works great. Most of the whiskers come out using the "gills." That said, I take the foil head off, rinse under the faucet, tap on my hand, and remaining whiskers come out. When I'm satisfied it's clear, I place on a hand towel and allow it to dry before reattaching to the shaving unit.I think the Braun Series 5 is a very good value. It shaves parts of my face better than a DE. I think a smaller shaving head gives better access to the lip and under the nose, for example. Combine it with an electric pre-shave product and you'll get a close shave with little to no irritation. I even shaved my head with this. I'm sticking with my safety razor for my head, but the results from the Series 5 are actually really good.

Works good where needed when it works
Intermittent Infant failure. It started locking up in less than two months of use.Works great when it works and does better than a manual shaver when it comes to shaving around curves. The braun technology is good for getting close without nicking skin etc. It’s less than two years old and the locking up problem that first surfaced in the first month of use has slowly gotten worse to where it can’t be depended on.What happens is when it is first turned on it might lock up and to clear it, it has to be plugged in for a second and that can be a hassle if you’re in the shower because it has to be plugged in to the power source (115vac) when clearing out the lockup. Let’s see how they make good on their two year warranty.I’ll be back.

Great shave
My husband has been using this brand for years. But for Father's day, I bought this upgraded razor and he loves the smooth, gentle shave. Trimmer is more close easy to use.

Battery charge only last 3 days now
When I received and started using this shaver, I would have rated it 5 stars, as it gave an incredibly close shave and the battery remained charged for 7 to 10 days! Eight months have passed, and while the shave is still pretty good, it's not as close as it was when I got it. But that's not why I'm giving the shaver 3 stars. The reason for this is the charge on the shaver lasts only three days now. I thought that was a fluke when it first happened, but it's now happened three times in a row. And when the charge dies, the shaver is totally DEAD and can't be used for a single shave for nearly 30 minutes. This is NOT good if you don't have 30 minutes to wait to shave. The only choice I now have is to charge the shaver after every use or two uses. I've owned several electric shavers over the last three decades, including a Braun, and this has never happened with any of them. Now I'll never buy a Braun shaver again. By the way, I'm not some shill hired by a Braun competitor. I'm just a retired guy who is INCREDIBLY disappointed with a product he bought and loved for a short period.
