Most useful of the books we took.
Of the several books we took on a recent road trip to Germany, this proved the most useful. It was our first road trip in Bavaria and as 'virgin' tourists to the area, we used this book to choose our itinerary. Using its suggestions for the highlights of the region, we spent 3 very enjoyable and informative weeks driving from Frankfurt to places including Nuremberg, Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Regensburg, the Ludwig Castle area and Berchtesgaden. The sight seeing, hotel, and restaurant suggestions were "right on" and we had a perfect "5 star" trip!

Decent book for East Germany traveling.
Traveled all over Germany, including Frankfurt, Berlin, Dresden, Wurzburg, Munich. The book was fine, not great. It left out a number of things we were interested in, but gave us enough info to get around fine and see everything. Just woulda liked more details about cool stuff and things to do.Probably best as a pre-Germany guide to decide generally on what to do - then research further more specifics somewhere else

Love the full color and up to date reviews!
Great book so far. Very informative and look forward to trying it out when I visit Germany this coming summer. Although I was disappointed that it did not have any information on the biggest heavy metal festival, now in its 25th year, WACKEN OPEN AIR! This is held north of Hamburg and there was no mention that I could find in here, for a festival that gets about 100,000 people per year, I would think that would garner some attention.

Comprehensive Yet Admirably Concise ... As Always!
Lonely Planet has never let me down in terms of their comprehensive travel guides and this edition of 'Discover Germany' was no exception. Thorough, all-encompassing, supremely informative, and yet (the hallmark of Lonely Planet) delectably concise! It was invaluable on a recent extended trip to Germany and I was able to carry it around and benefit immensely from its contents without feeling as if I were lugging an unwieldy and pretentious tome. Kudos once again to the stalwart Lonely Planet team!

Lonely Planet Didcover Germany(Full Color Travel Guide) is a perfect traveling companion
This book was purchased as a gift for a person who is moving back to Germany to retire. The person left the Stuttgart area as a thirteen year old and came to live in America. Upon returning to Germany this now 60 year old person is preparing to travel extensively. Lonely Planet Discover Germany (Full Color Travel Guide) is the perfect gift for someone who will travel all over Germany.

Nice itinerary and design
I've been shopping tour books for my upcoming trip for a while and this is the only book I think worth purchasing. Love it's all color and has suggested itineraries.

Lonely Planet in full colour!
This is a pared-down version of the classic Lonely Planet guide to Germany that is in bluescale. What it lacks in depth and amount of information is made up for with glossy full colour pages of photos and a pull out map of Berlin tucked into the backcover.Cons:- Pull-out map is only of Berlin. This assumes that everyone in the English-speaking world goes to Berlin first and foremost rather than other cities in Germany. This is simply not the case. One of the main German airport hubs is Frankfurt and offering a map of that city may be more useful for the frequent traveler. Munich is also the center of Oktoberfest activities and a map of it and surrounding Bavaria might be better for the sightseeing tourist. While 90% of tourists traveling to France are Paris-bound, there are no corresponding overwhelming tourist statistics for Germany (Berlin).- Not quite as in-depth as LP's classic bluescale series- Not quite as much information as LP's classic bluescale series.Pros:+ Full colour photos are nicer to look at.+ Full colour photos on glossy pages make it easier to get excited about a destination or activity. A plus when introducing a favourite German destination to a travel buddy.Recommended for those that like the more adventurous spirit of Lonely Planet Guides (as compared to Fodor's or Frommer's), but prefer to have a more concise guide and less options to be confused by. This guide is comparable to LP's classic series but there is less of it in a prettier package.

OK...
This travel guide book has good general information about everything but does not have details or something that travelers should know for example, how to buy train/bus tickets, airport information, more major hotels info. or transportation guide etc. But I like that there are many pictures and color pages and it has good information about many small towns. We always looked at the book and used it a lot.
