Just The Ticket
Great Purchase, awesome tool. I was in need of a Hex Bit Adapter/Extension for my new Cordless Drill. There were many to choose from here at Amazon. This was a half inch longer than what I wanted and just a bit more expensive than some of the others. But even though most of the photos in the reviews were showing failure of the Locking Mechanism. I decided to get this one anyway, because of the Dewalt Name. Now glad I did. Love the Locking Mechanism and the magnet inside is no slouch either. With a Hex Bit in place. There is enough magnetism to pick up multiple Screws out of a pile. So, I know if I place a Screw on the tip of a Hex Bit. It's not going anywhere unless I manage to somehow knock it off. I liked it so much. I came back and ordered two more. Now I have one in each of the Emergency Tool Bags I keep in my two Vehicles and one in the garage for the Cordless Drill.

AWESOME! I bought 5 of these!
I have a farm, and a full shop - and own multiple Dewalt Impact drivers.Using extensions like this with these is necessary for most bits - and generally they suck (too bulky to get into spaces, or too thin to last under impact - or the stupid bits keep falling out - or get stuck as the socket wears).I got one of these and it worked so well that I wound up tossing the rest of mine, and ordering 4 more of these. They lock tight and can be released from the bit using a quick-pull ring at the base. They are tough enough than none have deformed while using them - but also thin enough to get in pretty much everywhere.Wish I had found these sooner!

Fits double-sided bits but won't lock.
The magnet hold in 1/4" hex double-sided bits & leatherman flat bits but they won't lock. This thing would be perfect if it had knurling or some other kind of grip finish instead of being completely smooth.

Excellent, superior bit holder.
Excellent! This thing works great. Ive been using it almost daily for weeks and I love how it holds my bits. Its the perfect length, solid and smooth. Glad I got this, I definately recommend. I have used others, even big name manufacturer's, and this one is superior.

It's okay
I'll admit, I had doubts about this tool's ability to retain a fastener and they proved somewhat accurate. It does a good job retaining bits by magnetism and a locking mech that could work a little more smoothly. I wish it was a little shorter for access to tighter spaces but that really depends on the situation. The "short" story on this is you have to use really short bits so the fastener is relatively close to the tool's magnet or it isn't retained. Its ability to retain a longer fastener in the bit, like a 3 1/2" screw, is dubious at best. It would also be nice if the outer sheath rotated freely so it could be used to steady the aim with your free hand while the fastener is being driven but that might not be possible due to its mechanical locking feature. Its limitations are just that, limitations, when a few design improvements would broaden its usefulness and applicability. For true, solid magnetic retention of fasteners it's best to use the sliding magnetic collar design. DeWalt's metal magnetic collar seems to be the most solid and durable of these since other manufacture's offerings are cheap plastic with questionable durability. These collars require special "necked down" bits to work so setting up for all the different drives these days (SQ1&2, T25, T30, PH2 &3) gets kind of pricey. I'd hoped this would be a more economical alternative to that, and it is when using shorter screws in a situation its length allows.

Takes the beating of an impact drill.
I had gotten one of these with a kit. I had it in an impact drill that fell and it became bent. I purchased different manufacture's locking extensions only to be disappointed. When I found it on Amazon I purchased two of them. This is the best locking extension for an impact I've found so far. I highly recommend this item.

Great for your screw guns
A must have for the Cabinet Maker or Cabinet Repair. I struggled forever with bits coming off of my screw. Guns when I’m trying to attach a screw. Doesn’t happen with this holder because they’re locked in. Love it!
