IRiver 256MB MP3 player
Despite Amazon taking AGES to deliver it, it finally arrived and I couldn't wait to get it working...However, my Win2000 computer had great difficulty with the software. The music manager software did not want to recognise when I had the MP3 player plugged in (to my computer's USB port). It seemed to work on the odd occasion, so the first chance I got, I downloaded the firmware upgrade from the iriver site which makes your mp3 player appear as a folder into which I could drag and drop songs & folders of songs. This now works fine. I no longer need the temperamental music manager programme.By the way - the iriver has no problems when I plug it into a WinXP computer. It just reads it as a hard disk - perfect!Other than computer-issues, the player works well. Fantastic sound quality. Especially impressive for the radio and the voice recorder. It doesn't hold quite as many songs as I hoped, but I think this is due to high quality (large file) mp3s.I have had a few occasions where it has just died on me. But I switch it on again and its working fine. Bit strange! The practicality of an AA battery is a brilliant feature of this player. I can use my AA battery recharger so its not expensive to run.I have a few qualms about the controls on the player. The toggle function and 'intro' are a little puzzling and hard to master. There are some functions I don't understand at all (e.g. 'study')!!??All in all - a satisfactory purchase. With this sort of advanced technology, there are a few things which are bound to go wrong, but 90% of the time, all is well.

Tiny but Powerful box of tricks!
I toyed with buying an i-River for a week or two. Other reviews said the headphones were fiddly, it wasn't loud enough, it clicked at times. I finally decided to get one, and it is amazing.Of the three previous issues, only one holds true - in that the Sennheiser earphones are comfortable and crystal clear - you won't believe the sound quality of MP3 that close, especially if you download the new firmware from i-River's homepage, and load the new equaliser. All of this is simple thanks to the brilliantly well thought out menu and control system. It is extremely loud - I have no idea who would need a player to be louder. However, .WMA files recorded at 192 kbs do click occasionally - an audio glitch whitch is infrequent, tiny and only mildly irritating. However to not buy one on that basis would be stupid. This is an essential purchase. Buy buy buy!

The right choice
Well having spent ages going through the minefield that is portable MP3 players, i finally made my choice and went for this, the iriver iFP-390T(256mb).I needed a player with top quality sound, a good amount of memory, firmware upgradable , wma & mp3 plus i didn't want a built in battery .With spot on delivery and after the initial shock at the size of the manual(very comprehensive & clearly set out)i was downloading tracks on to the player using the easily installed iriver music manager within minutes !Many players seem to use sub standard headphones with people paying out another £20 on better one's ,but the iriver comes with top quality Sennheiser ones which i've found to be really good.So have i made the right choice ? Well i say a big 'YES' no faults so far and with a price on amazon that is cheaper than i could find elsewhere , go for it , you won't be disappointed!!!!!!!

Brilliant bit of kit
Bought the iRiver 256Mb for my wifes birthday. The intention being to get something that would not skip or jump while she was at the gym. I have been utterly astounded by this MP3 player. The sound quality is excellent, it comes with a range of accessories that make it usable in a number of situations, (neck lanyard and arm band) and it holds enough music to not be a pain with constant updating the tracks. The software is simple and installed no problems. I borrowed it for a gym session myself and was astounded by it- I am going to get one for myself!
