Excellent book!
I've long enjoyed Daniel's writings and have been on my own ayahuasca journey for quite a while now, including having a herneated lumbar disc cured by Shipibo shamans back in 2007 as outlined in my book 'Long Road to Chavin' (Amazon.com 2018).Because of ayahuasca (and huachuma or San Pedro) I became a peruvian citizen some years ago and have lived in Peru for 14 years. This is the best overview yet on the contemporary ayahuasca scene and includes the negative aspects, not just horn-blowing for ayahuasca tourism. As an ex-Waldorf student with an ongoing appreciation for the work of Rudolf Steiner I like how this book also makes reference to anthroposophy. No other ayahuasca author has done that to my knowledge.Good teamwork with Daniel and Sophia...Highly recommended!

Great book on the history and cultural implications of ayahuasca in western culture.
Really great book, lots of information regarding the history of ayahuasca as well as the drug war. This book brings up great points about the problems in ayahuasca tourism, the paradigm of indigenous american culture verse westernized culture in our perceptions and cultural presets and the future of psychedelics in western culture.

Good read but nothing new
A good book for someone who is curious about the Ayahuasca world but has not read much about it. Had some good advice for those who may be considering trying for the first time. If you've already read a ton of books in Ayahuasca or Amazon shamanism this may not offer much.

A multifaceted look at psychoactive plants
I find the book fascinating for the variety of angles it takes on the topic of psychoactive substances derived from plants: biological, experiential, metaphysical, historical, cultural. Any of them would have been interesting in isolation but all together form a readable and accessible introduction even for the 'lay' person like me.

Insightful and thought provoking
Did not expect this book to be as thought-provoking as it ended u being. It provides tremendous background about the history of plant medicine in the Amazon. It additionally considers the good and the bad of our current psychedelic revolution and it's effects on local communities.

The most comprehensive book on Ayahuasca
I love Daniel Pinchbeck and have been reading his stuff since his 2012 book (that changed my life). He is prolific and having the help of a botanist really helps you understand the complexity of the plant species involved in this entheogen. LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!!
