ChiliPad - Cooling/Heating Mattress Pad

Ahhhh if you've battled the bed fans and feels cool bed padding, welcome to your last buy. This popsicle can literally freeze you up! The first night I went a little overboard feeling certain my body temp was going to deflect heat so I froze! For those of you ready for night one, have some triple AAA (2) batteries on hand so you can change the temperature with your remote (not included). The device will be either 24 inches away from the head or foot of your bed. The next night I set it to 65f and still cuddled the blankets. This is excellent! Now ChiliPad...how's that ChiliPillow coming along? ;) [seriously!]Purchased: ChiliPad TWIN XL ($419)Value: Even at 20% off (Thank-you RetailMeNot) it's a very pricey product for in what my eyes just freezes water. What happens when this product breaks and I'm stuck with a limited warranty. Present self pleased...Future self, not so much.2 1/2 **Quality: OMG! Yes! The comfort and cooling of this pad is PHENOMENAL! Make sure for the safety of your mattress you purchase a mattress protector in case of a leak. 5*****Technology: There is a timer and auto shut off...It would be cool if the device would have an auto-start...maybe even work with Android or iO$ apps. Good features for the first model IMO - 4 ****Customer Service: I can't answer this section until I run into an issue - No RatingComfort: So quality and comfort are two separate issues. The pad is very very comfortable and you will feel it through your bed sheet. What could be improved is the location of the tube that goes to the control unit. It's not a terrible thing because let's face it if we get up and out of bed we don't do it at the head or foot of our bed. Maybe they thought of this...Ok ok, find I won't penalize for that - 4 1/2 ****Overall 4 star rating...I would like to see the price drop below $200 so that when the time comes for a replacement I'll smile in 5 years time and hash tag #worthit

After reading all the reviews I was a bit apprehensive about ordering this unit. There where numerous reports of the unit breaking down after a year or two. As somebody who tends to generate a lot of heat when sleeping I decided to give it a go despite the cost. I figured if it lasted 2 years it would be worth the money. I only use the unit for cooling so I can't attest to it's heating abilities but would guess it would work just fine for that. This unit does cool you down but even at it's lowest setting it's not as cold as I expected. You turn the unit on and after 10 minutes or so you can feel a slight chill it's not cold per say but it does do a sufficient job of wicking the heat away. So I am happy when it works. The problem is my unit stopped working after 2 months. Since I was past the amazon warranty period I had to ship the cube part back to chili technologies and absorb the return shipping cost of approximately $60 dollars. That sucked but what followed was even worse. Despite numerous emails and two months going by I could not get a response from the company on the status of my RMA. Finally I tracked someone down on the phone only to be told they had not had a chance to look at it yet. Two weeks later I got a call saying that the cube I sent it was working fine and that they wanted me to ship the pad back as well as they though the issue might be with it. I thought this was silly as the pad is nothing but a kitted blanket with tubs running threw it. I mean what could go wrong with that. So anyways I sent the pad back in at an additional cost of $30 return shipping and played the waiting game again. 1 month later after trying to reach them by email a number of times I was still without my unit. I reach them by phone again on a Friday afternoon as was told to contact them again on Monday as they were busy. The rep on the phone was very curt and hung up on me. The next week I received a call saying that they could not figure out what the issue was with my unit and were sending me a replacement unit. 4.5 months later after I initially sent it in for repair the replacement unit arrived. Its been working fine for the last two months but I have very little confidence that it is going to stay that way.Here are my observations about the unit. It does generate some noise when in operation. It's a bit loader then a fan when running so expect some ambient noise. White noise does not bother me so I am fine with that. The unit vents out hot air. When the unit is cooling the fans blow out a significant amount of heat out. Enough that it warms up my room a bit so if your in a hot room this might add to that. I suspect if you ambient temperature is high in your room it may effect the cubes cooling abilities. You need to make sure the cube as room all around it for proper ventilation so you can't stick it in a cabinet or under the bed. In a perfect world I would drill a hole in a wall and run the unit it in a different room. The pad size is misleading. I ordered the queen version of the pad. I expected the pad to cover my queen size bed. That's not the case. It covers approximately half a queen bed so if you want full coverage you probably need the double version at double the cost. Take measurements before you order. The pad also has a strap that you can use to affix it to your mattress. Unfortunately that strap does not even come close to fitting around a queen size mattress so I had to resort to using para cord to tie it down to prevent it from bunching up.When this thing works it does cool your down but I simply can't recommend it to anyone due to my negative experience with it and the companies poor customer service.

Great temperature regulation.

Everything is bad about this mattress pad. It says 46-118 degrees, but it won't reach 118 degrees for hours. For example, it's currently 64 degrees in my house, and I've had my chilipad set for 118 for the last 2 hours...it currently shows the temperature at 95 degrees. It'll never reach 46 degrees unless it's about 60 in your house (in which case, you wouldn't want it on 46...). I've only noticed mine ever able to get a *max* of 10 degrees less than ambient temperature. The device is very loud. When it's hot in the room and you try to cool down your mattress, it uses so much electricity that it'll heat your entire room even more while trying to cool your mattress. In theory, this device is great...in actuality, there are more cons than pros. I would not recommend this.Also, I've had mine for awhile now, and when I bought it, the queen size came with only 1 device (whatever you call the control unit)...now they come with 2. When I spoke with customer service, they basically said that's why they discontinued the queen with 1 device - gee, I'm glad I spent hundreds of dollars to find out I bought a product that didn't work from the get go. Their solution? Send me a 'single' sized mattress cover for my queen size bed. Great solution guys! I can only imagine how loud and how much heat and electricity 2 units would use.

I have only had it for 2 weeks so will save more comments when it gets hot in the summer. I'm a very warm sleeper. So far not that impressed. Best quality is that I maybe can fall asleep faster because the bed in cool when I'm ready for bed. The 1 oz of disinfectant once a month for $8 is highway robbery.
