Maglites just keep giving! But their bulbs just suck!
I've owned MagLites all my life and have experimented with smaller LED torches, however just dont find that they feel as secure as the trusty olé MagLite! The Maglites are functional as they either take AAA, AA, C or D size batteries and luckily these batteries are readily available! These batteries especially the larger batteries add quiet a lot of weight to the torch alone and do make the torch much much heavier than anything else I own. However this weight is a quality that non other can reproduce! The aluminium that Mag entrust is of aircraft quality and I have had not one issue with corrosion or failure of the threads or body parts. The latest Mag I purchased is the 2D Incandescent in Gray, and the standard bulb was the first thing to be thrown (not even kept as a spare!) thats how bad the light output is. These were replaced with the NiteIze LED upgrade bulbs, the 1Watt as the main light and the poorer performance bulb as the spare in the tail cap. The Maglite now has slightly better performance, 'slightly being' whiter light with possibly 20% more distance but still suffers the black hole issue with the reflector as you adjust. The LED upgrade gives you about 3 times more battery life and is just a good all round upgrade compared to the incandescent bulb, I have even tried other bulbs that promise 'whiter' light to no avail! The torch still has the generic rubber switch, I wish Maglite would change this to a metal switch like on the tailcap's on a Led Lenser, the rubber eventually perishes and I have to constantly nourish it with silicone spray to stop it drying out. Otherwise the button assembly is bomb proof and I have never had any issues with it ever. The threads and fitting of the head (reflector) and the tail-cap, both have large rubber gaskets and very well machined threads. From factory there seems to be a 'bee spit's' worth of lubrication, so I wipe that off and put on a good quality PTFE based grease on the threads and some silicone spray on the gaskets to condition them. I find that there is a better water resistance created when I do this to my Mag's. Overall, the product is presented flawlessly. The Mag's anodizing (both exterior and interior on all parts) is beautiful and exterior kerneling is perfect. I wish that MagLite Industries would come out with optional accessories like a window breaker bezel or tail cap and some better optics that hug the bulb better that would reduce the 'black hole' issue, also a tempered glass / UV filtered bulb glass in the head. Some of these options or upgrades would make a Maglite more personalised and sentimental. Otherwise the Maglite is something that you buy once and just maintain it for years, keep it clean and serviceable and keep an eye on your batteries that they're not leaking and it will look after you when its needed!

Always love MAGLITEs!!
I love all MAGLITEs that I own. The 6D light is incredibly powerful. Perfect for an airport beacon. :-) Seriously, the adjustable focus allows for wide flood to tight spot with a range that allows you to see considerable distances with clarity at night. Would be perfect for neighborhood watches. The one and only complaint I have with MAGLITEs is the quality of the manufacturing of the bulbs. They last very long but the accuracy in which they are shaped and attached to the bulb's base during manufacturing is often poor. This results in uneven light distribution in the beam. The bulb in this particular 6D light (one of several that I have owned and currently own) was tilted in its base by a very visible amount. When the light is focused to spot, this seriously affects the ability of the MAGLITE to cast as much light at a distance because much of light is reflected by the MAGLITE's reflector off to angles that prevent it from contributing to the center of the beam. This affects its power and range of illumination. However, I happened to have spare bulbs and selected one that was manufactured more precisely, installed it in the MAGLITE, and the beam was perfect. So if you get one that shoots much of its light off to one side of the beam center, look for another bulb (there is a spare in the base of the flashlight) and swap out the bulb. In addition to bulbs that are tilted in their base (not the socket of the MAGLITE that receives the bulb, but the base of the bulb iteself), the size and shape of the nipple where the glass was formed can also cause issues with light distribution, though not as severe as bulbs that are attached to their bases incorrectly. This can often contribute to uneven light distribution in the beam. I have many MAGLITEs of all sizes, except C-cells, and this problem occurs relatively often in the D-cell lights, but not in all instances. I learned to keep some extra bulbs on hand not only for when one burns out (again, they last long) but also to replace a poorly-manufactured one in a new MAGLITE. I think that MAGLITE should work on the quality control of its bulbs (which may be manufactured by someone for MAGLITE). Regardless, the bulb issue, if you have one, is easily corrected be replacement of the bulb. I would still recommend MAGLITEs to anyone. They are tough, long lasting and powerful. Just don't let batteries sit too long in the light without changing them with fresh ones. If they leak, they fuse to the inside of the light and you won't get them out.

Old style flashlight, handy to use and have.
Get re-chargeable batteries to use in this flashlight. My old model, which this new one replaces, the standard batteries rusted in place and could not be removed. This is a great flashlight to have!

The Greatest Flashlight Ever Made: Please Buy It
There is no flashlight I can think of, of any type or price that is better than this one. If you have no flashlights, buy it; if you have flashlights but not this one, buy it and be prepared to discard the flashlights you have. It is tough and durable. It will serve faithfully no matter how badly you use or abuse it. It will outlive you, and you will be able to hand it down to your grandchildren. Professionals of all sorts have come to rely on this flashlight. The efficiency of the reflector is also legendary. I compared this flashlight with the stock krypton bulb to a Rayovac Industrial flashlight with a halogen bulb. The Maglite won hands down. To check, we took the bulb out of the Rayovac and put it into the Maglite. Same result: the Maglite simply put out more light even with the same bulb. I also like the silver color. The black color seems to be popular, but I prefer one that is brightly colored or easy to spot in emergency, safety, rescue, outdoor, or survival conditions. So there. If you want a flashlight, please buy this one. You will not regret it. POSTSCRIPT Maglite now has an LED version New Maglite brand 3 Watt Luxeon LED Flashlight 2 D Cell Gray Housing . The LED will not blow if you drop in on the ground (the regular incandescent version above will last forever, but you will have to replace the bulb once in a while; LED will never have to be replaced). It may be more $$$, but the light is also brighter.

Nice Flashlight
Arrived on time & this Flashlight is heavy duty & works well but only giving 4 stars because this Maglight seems to be weaker then my old one from years ago. Light is dimmer & doesn’t seem to light up as far or as wide a distance as my old one. I even tried different brands of batteries just in case the batteries I used were old but it didn’t make a difference in battery brightness of the beam.

Solid, beautifully machined but needs a few things
These things are solid, they feel great, and are machined well. For some reason maglite is in the stone age when it comes to brightness though. Not a big deal, with a Swess brand led bulb, a weltool lens holder/glass lens combo and the maglight accessories, this is the perfect flashlight. The accessories may be more than the maglite itself, but it really makes the flashlight. I've had a cheap led rechargeable flashlights that was brighter but my 3 year old ripped the lense portion off. Not going to happen with this thing and it doubles as a defensive tool when you're taking out the trash or walking at night. Have a 6d black maglite coming from a different source for a good price too ($25 for this 3d blue one was great, found the 6d black for 38 but I have to wait 2 months backorder). Either way I have a spare led bulb and wall mount already from this upgrade. Going to get the black Weltool face and spiked end cap for that one. Not religious but Ill pray that I never drop it on my foot just in case

The best flashlights. Period.
I wrote this once and the Amazon app didn’t sane anything, crashed, and lost it all! I with Amszin’s app was 1/10th as reliable as my Maglite flashlights! Okay, here goes attempt number two... A week or so ago the wind was gusting to 61 mph, so it was only a matter of time until the power was going. To go out (it’s PG&E, what can I say!). So to be a good Boy Scout I am always prepared with too many flashlights. I grabbed one and kept it right by my side. Within.an hour we lost power for about : hours. I have been using Maglites for about 40 years now. I have a lot of them. You pretty much can’t destroy them, although I may have finally outdone them. I had a fire start in the garage, destroyed just about everything including melting the cars in the Geri east! My flashlights might all be here with today if I had followed the ma manufacturing manufacturers advice... You see, I modified a couple of them, such as lithium-ion batteries, terralux head, etc. it seems when those are in a fire and then the fire department sprays water on them the result is, well, not good. A blue 4- cell spun wildly (judging by the hatchet marks spiraling around the barrel), crack the barrel and shot the tailcap out never to be found again. The black 2-cell was never found. The red 2-cell had orange-top Sorbo Lithium-Poly -.5v batteries, which melted and did nothing more. This is probably why Maglite advises you should ONLY use alkaline batteries.. I could have bought new flashlights, but this fire was hard on e. 9 months later it’s still difficult to deal with. I decided to spend twice as much and “rebuild” one “Survivor” flashlight out the these three (I had changed the tailcap on the missing black one). I took the blue head, which still has my Gorilla Vlass in it unbroken (now permanently stuck in the bezel, with melted plastic from the reflector), bought a new switch, had spare parts, for the reflector and build, used the red body (getting that melted switch out took me a LONG time since I have no tools anymore) and the black tailcap to build one working flashlight, which I use all the time. It reminds me that I survived, and so did 1//3 of each Maglite. After 40 years I finally broke 3 of them! All the others have been stolen or the ex took them... Idiots can keep stealing the lm, and I will just buy new ones. I won’t waste much money on any other flashlight, it’s just a waste of money. I hope Maglite sticks around a few more years so others can see what a quality American-made product is really worth.

Very massive flashlight, with xenon incandescent bulbs
If you're looking for a flashlight to keep in you car in case of necessity or to put in your pocket or in your backpack that's not the right flashlight to choose. Maglite 6D Incandescent light is a 50cm (20in) flashlight that weights more than a kilogram (2,2 lb) when filled with batteries. Autonomy is only 11 hours and the brightness of 178 lumens, which are few when compared to much smaller LED flashlights with lower energy consumption. Then, why choose such a product? Some people buy it thinking to buy also a LED upgrade and have a LED 6d Maglite, that's cheaper than buying a normal LED 6d Maglite but you get less lumen and functionality. In my opinion the best reason to choose this flashlight is because of its light quality. I don't like LED light because even if it's powerful, I think it has a worse quality in terms of color rendering and depth. 178 lumen may not be many, but if you walk in the nature without running I think they will be more than enough. There is also the possibility of orienting the light by deciding whether to focus it on a large nearby area or on a specific point farther away. Choosing this proctuct you will have a lifetime warranty and a product from a famous and quality brand. I recommend this flashlight to those who appreciate the quality of incandescent light and are not afraid of high consumption of expensive batteries. I posted a couple of photos so you can get an idea of the size of the flashlight.
