Multi-Purpose Soft Aluminum Barrel Vise Jaws for Gunsmithing

Worked to remove my 10/22's flash hider!
For whatever reason Ruger evidently employs a gorilla to install the flash hider on their threaded 10/22 barrels. I tried to remove it with nylon jaws and heating it up with a torch. No deal. At first I didn't think these would do the job either. First attempt failed but then I moved the barrel to the spot that I figured the jaws would have the best contact-about 1/3 of the distance from the muzzle to the receiver. Smacked the handle of the vise with a hammer to get it as tight as I could and again heated the hider with a torch. Put a 3/4" wrench on the flats and whacked the end of it with the hammer. YES!!! It finally broke free! I have no idea why Ruger feels it necessary to put them on so tight....???Oh, btw-I tried the above with a piece of leather around the barrel to protect it first. No joy. The barrel continued to rotate. Out of desperation I then did the above with barrel naked and it worked. My barrel is stainless steel and suffered no lasting marks. Dunno what the outcome would be if it was blued.Hope this helps someone out.

Worked Great!
Wow! These worked great. Needed to remove the flash hiders from a couple of AR's. These gave plenty of grip. (My hard-plastic soft jaws slipped every time.) Hint: Wrap the barrel in blue painter's tape to prevent marking. (The soft aluminum can scrape off onto the much harder steel.)

Ridiculously small for use with an AR barrel, but wasn't a loss.
