Understanding Business, 10th Edition

An interesting read
I actually rented this primarily for an online Business 201 class that I am taking, so I wasn't expecting to find anything other than basic terms and concepts explained in a dull, textbook fashion, but this book has actually been an interesting read. Each chapter begins with a profile of someone who has been a major player in different business fields, and the terms and concepts are outlined in a way that's easy to read and mentally digest. I'm finding myself inspired as I start my own business venture (which is why I am taking the class), and seeing good advice that I can put into practice.Overall - it's been pretty pleasant. I still wouldn't read it on a random lazy Sunday afternoon just for giggles, but I would read it again if it were in my personal collection.

This book provides a great base understanding on how different businesses operate
I purchased this book on Amazon last semester after finding it for a fraction of the cost my college bookstore was selling it for. There are 20 chapters in this book sectioned into 6 parts as listed below:Part 1 (Chapters 1-4) -> Business Trends: Cultivating a Business in Diverse, Global EnvironmentsPart 2 (Chapters 5 & 6) -> Business Ownership: Starting a Small BusinessPart 3 (Chapters 7-9) -> Business Management: Empowering Employees to Satisfy CustomersPart 4 (Chapters 10-12) -> Management of Human Resources: Motivating Employees to Produce Quality Goods and ServicesPart 5 (Chapters 13-16) -> Marketing: Developing and Implementing Customer-Oriented Marketing PlansPart 6 (Chapters 17-20) ->Managing Financial ResourcesI found this book to be very helpful and I think it offers some great information to those who may be striving to be small business owners in the future and starting their own LLC or partnership. This book is packed with information on all things business and I think it's a must have for anyone like me who has never taken a business class before.

Access code smaccess code
I needed this book for school. As far as textbooks go it isn't the worst I've come across. I docked on star because of the whole malarkey about an "access code". Pro tip - On the McGraw Connect site they let you have free access for a limited time. For my class I was able to just finish all of the module assignments within the trial period to save myself $150+. For a college textbook it's a pretty easy read with a lot of pictures. And the information for this edition is surprisingly relevant.

A bit oversimplified.
What I like about Understanding Business are the examples provided within each chapter. The only problem is, it's a bit oversimplified.Learning about business shouldn't be complicated because it relates to real world in almost every way.The chapters are around 20 pages on average which is a perfect read. You won't ever be too behind, but try to stay ahead.Don't lose this book. It's very expensive.Enjoy.

Lots of highlighting and notes inside.
The book itself has been helpful for understanding the assigned learning objectives, it's written clearly and isn't boring to read. My gripe, however, is not the book but the condition this rental is in. It has more than average highlighting and notes are written inside. It's distracting and had I known it would have been in this condition, I wouldn't have rented it.

Great book
Needed it for my Intro to Business class about 1.5 years ago.Book was brand new when I rented it from Amazon, shipping was good, and everything of the book is easy to read so therefore understandable. I would recommend it to anyone interested in understanding business especially if you're going into any aspects of business (I'm currently taking a marketing class which involves many of the terminology learned in this book).

Never rent textbooks from Amazon.
Before I begin, I would like to state that this review isn't for the textbook, it is for my experience of renting a textbook from Amazon. The textbook arrived as promised (used condition) and in time. The problems started when I forgot to return my textbook by the due date. Amazon automatically extended my rental for 15 days, with a fee of $20+ dollars. Thats fine. I missed the extended due date as well so they charged me to purchase the book. That is fine as well… I didn't return the book I should have to pay for it. HOWEVER, Amazon charged me a little over $250. TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS for a textbook that they are selling NEW for not even $200 (to buy used is around $50/$75).I have no problem for paying the $20+ extension fee or even paying for the book. I should have kept track of my rental due date but I didn't and that is solely my fault. BUT I ended up paying a total of around $320 ($50 rental, $20 extension, $250 purchase price, these prices are rounded down to the nearest 10th). I just think that is ridiculous and a total rip off. Yes, it was stated when I rented the book that I would have to pay this amount but I don't think that when people are renting books they think much of these prices because who plans on not returning the book or returning it late?I called customer service but because I knew about these prices in the beginning, they couldn't do anything and I understand that, an agreement is an agreement. But I want to write this review to warn all you other buyers and maybe even if an amazon representative sees this, hopefully there will be change. Its ridiculous to charge college students this amount of money. Go ahead Amazon, charge for the rented books that were not returned but PLEASE charge prices that are FAIR. I wouldn't mind paying the used buying price of the textbook or, for that matter, even the new price if you put the money I payed for my rental towards it.I have bought from Amazon for several years now and have referred many friends. However, I will not be renting from Amazon again and I will advise friends and family against it as well. Very disappointed.
