Superb graphics!!
My system: It ain't the latest-greatest "Duo" or "Quad" super fast hell on wheels box. In fact it's a Dell Optiplex GX270, 3.0Ghz Hyperthreaded P4. RAM is 2GB, video is ATI Radeon 9550 (Dual capable) w 256Mb DDR. Sound is Creative Audigy4, MS Sidewinder Precision Pro flight stick (USB driven) I just received my copy of FSX-Deluxe + Accelerator Pack. They installed flawlessly in under 30 minutes, total. Just got through "test flying" it. Stunning! I just selected "free flight", Cessna 172, and I selected my local small air field, which should be located just to the east of Nashville, TN. Cornelia Fort air park. Got flying, quickly located Berry International just where it should be. Went looking for Nashville's skyline - hmmm, kind of generic looking. Oh well. I'm not picky about that type of detail anyway. That said, the graphics and dynamic graphic details were none the less stunning. Everything from the city traffic to other aircraft in flight was displayed quite well. I encountered no reduction in frame rates nor did I encounter any "stuttering" of the display. All played smoothly. I checked the simulator settings and they are all at 3/4 full. I intend on playing with those settings to see what my box can do. I haven't "played" FS since FS98. I have CFS3 which plays well on my system except when there is a lot of other things going on, then it may stumble a bit, but not enough to make it unplayable. It doesn't have near the graphic detail of FSX, and yet FSX beats it hands down in function. I am impressed. I definitely recommend FSX. Just be sure to either download the Service Pack when you've completed the install OR get the Acceleration Pack. You do not need to download the service pack if you have the Acceleration Pack. Activation went without a hitch - no problem at all!

Good stuff. My preferred Flight Sim over all others.
I've been flying Microsoft for several years now, since FS2000 Pro. This version is a huge improvement over FS2000, Large improvement over FS2002, good improvement over FS2004. One thing I REALLY like is being able to see the small hills the highways follow, and they're where they are in real life. Nice. The terrain is similar to 2000 and 2004 but the trees and water are dramatically better. I think the flight dynamics are far, far better than any previous version. I also bought X-Plane based on the blade-element theory that the flight dynamics are as accurate as possible. Yech. I would hastily disagree. FSX is far more like what I experienced in real life vs Xplane. I don't play the XPlane sim much. It's too twitchy. When I fly, I FSX. It's just better. I'm running an HP quad core 2.2, Vista home premium-yum, 3 gigs of RAM and an 8500 video card w/ 256 megs of ram. Not state of the art, not overclocked at all, and I can run the sim on high, ultra high, with quite a bit of traffic, and some weather, and see FPS in the high 20's low 30's. If I turn the display up to 1600x1050 I start getting the jitters, so I keep it 1200x 768. I'll bet it would run even better under XP though, as Vista sucks up 1/3 of my memory at idle.

A Bit of a Disappoinment
I have been a Flight Simulator fan since the mid 1980's when Bruce Artwick first developed the program for the Commodore and Atari computers (I've bought every upgrade since then). MicroSoft took over the development and marketing of this massive and complicated program in the 1990's and of course as the Commodore and Atari machines faded into the distant past, Flight Simulator went onto the PC platform. I've lost track of all the versions now, but FS2004 (FS9) has been my favorite, without a doubt. My review is not going to be technical; I'll just give you my general thoughts about FSX. ****************************************** UPDATE........ A FSX SERVICE PACK (SP1) HAS BEEN RELEASED FOR FSX. THE PROGRAM RUNS A LOT BETTER NOW. BUT STILL THE PROGRAM OVERALL, IS A BIG DISAPPOINTMENT..... ***************************************** I had been looking forward to getting FSX Deluxe (FS10) and finally puchased it through my most favorite internet retailer, AMAZON. I was not disappointed with their super service. I have a pretty "hot" desktop computer, so installation of the program via the DVD's went smoothly and I was able to set the program "sliders" moderately high (the "sliders" adjust the "realism" of Flight Simulator to a level that matches the ability of your computer). If there is any "game" which pushes the boundaries of your computer to the maximum. it has always been the latest version of Flight Simulater. FSX continues that philosophy. But I generally found FSX a bit disappointing, although it's generally quite a nice program. Scenery, aircraft, 3D panels, etc. have all been bumped up a few notches in quality, but I find that it is not a major improvement over FS2004. I was hoping for a working FMC (Flight Management Computer) and a much improved flight planner in this version but no such luck (third party designers have been selling FMC equipped cockpits for FS for years now...why not Microsoft?). Yes, I'll grudgingly switch over to FSX, but be annoyed at the disappointingly small amount of improvements (for my money). For example, I took off in the Cessna at SW International Airport in Fort Myers, Florida for a vfr flight down to my home town of Naples, Fl. This area of Florida has built up rapidly (too rapidly, in fact) over the years..lots of high rises on the gulf, and wall to wall housing developments, congested cities.... Yet the scenery appeared as if I were flying over the African savannah..mostly grassy plains, scattered clumps of palm trees and empty beaches..totally unrealistic. It looked like I could go on safari if I landed,(instead of getting caught in a traffic jam!). All in all, a fair program, but a bit of a disappointment for this old flight simmer.

It just keeps on teaching .
They say flying gives you a great feeling of being free, Well let me tell you Ive been sitting in my wheelchair for the past 40 years, and Ive never felt more free from this chair when im flying Microsoft flight sim deluxe edtion Ive got a large screen and when Im sitting playing the game it makes me feel like im right there. I started using flight sim deluxe 15 years ago, and I just had to buy a new game ,because I wore the old one out It keeps teaching you something new, every time you use it. Can,t live with out it . I suggest you give it a try.well spent money. love how fast they delivered it it me I started to get withdrawl symptems . I bought the flight sim excelleration pack and loaded 10 other add on planes to it. The more I add to it, the less sleep im getting. The graphics are the best I,ve seen so far . the instrument panels are easy to read , and learn. Looking at the instrument panels for 11 ,12 hours a day and still enjoy the game. (hooked for life) Vito.. PS Amazom Great Job!!!First time using you guys you have a new costomer If you wanna become a Microsoft flight sim junkie is to start like I did with the Microsoft Flight Sim 4 A Centery OF Flight, ITs a great way to start your flight sim life , you will definatly graduate to to Microsoft deluxe edtion When you do I think you will be hooked for life. have fun ,I am Vito

Just got it. So far so good.
The learning curve here, you absolutely, positively have to buy a book that will instruct you on how to best utilize this quote/unquote "game." I did not purchase this for gaming purposes. I bought two books on how to use MS FSX... so far, I like it quite a bit. Not being a gamer, but instead learning to fly airplanes I'm still trying to figure the two out. I don't know if it's MS FSX or the joystick, but when I intend to pitch up, moving the joystick back, which logically to me would be the equivalent of applying back pressure, (pulling back on a yoke) thus the nose of the plane would ideally point upward, away from the ground. Instead, the opposite occurs. I want the nose to point up when I pull back, point down when I push forward. Hopefully, this can be re-programmed. This takes a pretty long time to load. It is more than 13 GB. (Thirteen) The newer, faster, better graphics your PC has the better, (surprise, surpise.) Myself, I set up a practice flight with relative ease, but I can't get the plane to do anything else at this point. There's no response to any given action but the Esc key to leave the program. I can't get the plane to do anything yet. It won't move. I can get an ATIS report, so that's pretty cool. Good practice. But now, I have to reference one of the books, purchased separately, to find out what to do now. It looks as though it promises to be pretty good. It's fairly inexpensive. I would buy it if I didn't already own it. Come to think of it. I do have more than one computer. So, maybe, just maybe I'll see how this goes and perhaps buy another copy. The software does have to be authorized, and just how limited it is in use should a user put the same disc from the same package onto a second computer? I'll never know unless someone writes about it and I happen to see it, or if someone tells me. I'm not gonna bother. It's not that expensive, and loading is time consuming, it might be against the law; I'm not gonna mess with that. So far I'm happy with this. Personally, if you want to use this as a training aid, you can't go wrong BUt be advised, on top of anything or everything else, the learning curve can be steep. Lots of factors and variables. Good luck. I hope this has been useful to you in your decision making.

Still As Real As It Gets!
Flight Simulator X is a giant leap forward. Many people initially reviewed this simulation without giving it a fair shake. Yes Microsoft went overboard and this offering, but what they created is pure gold! Yes the simulation is beautiful, but yes it also will bring a computer to its knees. There are ways to calm the beast though, and getting to know FSX takes time. First off, you should be aware that this is not the last item you will need to buy for this simulation. It might be hard to accept, but Microsoft overdid it by not giving enough! How is that? The aircraft in this simulation are stunning! Maybe it's buggy initially, but there are ways to fix it. First, the artificial flights you will see while flying are beautiful airplanes too. They are too beautiful actually. By purchasing an add-on traffic package you can make your system run the simulation faster with aircraft that are slimmed down for that purpose. The same goes for terrain, weather and even communications. Thankfully, there are many many companies producing add-on packages for flight simulator. Do some research on google for Ultimate Terrain, Ultimate Traffic, and check the reviews for other packages too! Aerosoft, Abacus, Flight1, Just Flight, and many others have excellent add-ons that will boost the performance of FSX. I believe Microsoft did this to save on packaging costs and to deliver a product that we could afford. That is becoming a very lofty goal! Hopefully, the soon to be realized release of FS11 will have some new solutions. Knowing that you will want to spend more money won't make it easier to initially purchase this product, but it will make the product more enjoyable and more appealing to the eye as well once you do make those purchases and see how real flight can really be! Enjoy!

Easily the best so far, by far.
Here are some things you need to know before buying: This software is not a game. It's a real-time simulation. You'll need a Cray supercomputer to run it. The graphics are, hands down, the best in the business... any business. The flight models are realistic. I know, I'm a pilot. Where else can you learn how to fly around the world in a range of aircraft with no risk whatsoever for about 60 bucks? If you enjoy this sort of thing (you know who you are), spend the money for one good dinner out on years worth of aviation discovery. When I was a kid I never dreamt that something so comprehensive, exhilarating and downright beautiful would ever be possible. How spoiled we are!

Good game, Not great as training aid. Power hog.
I am a student pilot and am looking for a simulator that will help me in my classes. FSX is NOT that type of simulator. It is a game. Yes, it is fun but I think there is little you can take into a Cessna 172 and use to be a better pilot. One example of this is the missions section. You start a mission and the instructer does a little brief, but then he basically leaves you on your own, especially when practicing landing. Ten minutes out he tells you to put on flaps and decrease speed but does nothing to guide or correct you along the way to landing. I even landed one time nose down and he said "great landing" and that I had completed the mission. I think the only thing you can learn in the game and translate to real life are the dials and glass cockpits. To run this game at its full potential, you must have a duo core processor, 2+ GB Ram, 512+ mb PCI Express video card. Just remember, Microsoft has come a long way in Flight sims over the years but if you want the feel of a real aircraft, go to your nearest flight school and take to the skies with a real Flight Instructor. Flight Simulator 2004 seems to be better at instruction and will run on most standard release laptops and desktops now. But like I said, FSX and FS2004 are both good "games".

Classic.
Great software. Can't call this a game. Support from forums and Macs community is what makes this still viable. Millions of addons. If youd like to fly this is a must have. Very reasonable system requirements. Great for your kids if you are a pilot. Or interested in weather, or travel, or a million other things. Its nice to be able to fly different places and then do it for real. Many landmarks are really recognizable. Don't forget your headphones and Mic. The first time you talk to another player operating as air traffic control you will fall in head first.
