The merchant for this book was in touch to see if I was satisfied since he/she had noticed a mark on one edge of the book when sending. I could barely see what I think he/she was mentioning so am thankful for the concern, but I am more than satisfied with this new-looking book to me which I have just perused and find it very interesting and detailed. Thank you.

A Very Useful Book
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and found it to be full of useful information. I particularly liked the nutritional information and suggestions for foods to focus on for a bone-building diet. As a vegetarian (almost vegan), I find that I cannot apply many of her suggestions and will not be able to try many of her recipes. As the book was published eight years ago, there is no mention of the newer osteoporosis drugs such as Prolea, and that is unfortunate as this seems to be the drug of choice at the moment. Also, I found that she sees very little merit in nutritional supplements and could have placed more emphasis on the benefits of exercise.. Those things being said, this is the most helpful book I have read to date on the subject of osteoporosis and alternative approaches to treating it.

What an excellent book!I bought it on 2013 for my mother who was diagnosed with osteopenia on 2010 and was prescribed a synthetic estrogen called evista which she took until end of 2012.This was some time ago.I am writing this review now on AUG 2017 because some days ago my mother got a fresh bone mass test and the results were negative! No more osteopenia (age 77)!The doc was looking at both the current results and the 2010 test and concluded that one of the two is false!!! lolBy the recommendations of the book, mother started eating at least one green salad a day and abstained from tomatoes, eggplants and by a lesser degree potatoes (all nightshades).Starting last year she is also supplementing with a dried green powder called lifedrink to boost even more the greens in her diet.I felt I owed the writer a 5 star review, after the good she has done for us. Thank you.

Yes, you need this book
Colbin has been writing about food and health for over thirty years with logic and intelligence. She documents credible resources throughout this book and challenges the prevailing stronghold of the pharmaceutical and commercial food industries over our "well being". She also addresses the roles of exercise and the tenor of emotional energy we embrace upon our whole-being and the health of our living, dynamic skeletal system.I was trained as a clinical nutritionist and she brings up important factors that were previously never academically addressed, such as crucial pH levels and the utilization of bone calcium to compensate for the out of balance diet, which is standard American fare. This book complements the increasingly popular voice of Michael Pollan, championing the importance of a back-to-basics approach to food: Eat your greens, and lots of them. This simple advice may be the key to surviving, by avoiding, our complex and expensive medical system.

Excellent, intelligent information for bone health
I like this book a lot. Just a ton of really good, sensible, thoughtful, research-based information here.I would give it 5 stars, but I took one away because it is written towards a post-menopausal female audience. I am not in that demographic, so I feel like the book wasn't directed towards me. But the information was mostly relevant (minus the parts about hormone replacement therapy), so I suppose it doesn't matter much. What I took away from this book was all the various nutrients/vitamins/minerals/etc that are necessary for bone health. It's really not just calcium. And she elaborates on this, and gives foods that provide each of the relevant components. Such good information!

Useful, accessible, delicious.
This is a well written and researched guide to strong bones, not just a recipe book, but a lot of factual information that supports the food recommendations. There is also a holistic approach which points to additional directions wherein may lie some areas to explore to free up the body's ability to actually use the nutrients, particularly calcium. Very pleased.

Great read.
I learned so much from this book. Many important things about food and how it can be more effective that medicine. A must read for anyone interested in improving their bones without the use of chemicals. Osteoporsis can be reversed by diet. I feel much better eating healthy foods.

The BEST most inclusive book on osteoporosis and how to help yourself written today!
Annemarie Colbin gives the science behind all the information regarding testing and drugs available and how they affect the body. She also includes a complete overall view of ways to start today and help to strengthen your bones from diet, working with one's stress levels in life and exercise. I found this to be an exhaustive account and a one-stop shopping book for osteoporosis. I have read countless other books and I highly recommend this book as #1.Buyer beware: This is not a quick fix book, as to change one's bone structure takes both focus and commitment!

A good sensible advice book
This offers an all round view on osteoporosis giving the best and 'more doable' advice from several different approaches, i.e. whole foods, omniverous and aci/alkali diets. Unfortunately many of the recipes are based on American foods e.g. 'grits'. What are collard greens? You have to translate and I after research it seems collard greens are similar to our spring greens. There is also a chapter on the importance of exercise. I felt she offers hope that you can regain bone that has been lost.
