While you CAN use the cleaner without the hose, the hose greatly enhances its usefulness. This is made well so i consider it a good product. The only thing I wish is that it came with some sort of attachment so it can stay on the vac/stand without the end part dangling around. When I'm not using this attachment I don't know where to put it.
