The Care and Keeping of You: The Body Book for Younger Girls, Revised Edition (American Girl Library) Spiral-bound – March 26, 2012

My son is raising his two girls. Their mother passed and I needed something for the youngest to read to start the conversation. This is ideal to set the stage for questions and answers.

My daughter is not afraid to ask questions, but if yours is, this book is great. We read it together and what the book doesn't cover, I answer. I just had no clue how too answer her questions in a way that she would understand and this book does it beautifully.

I bought this for my 10 year old daughter. We talk about puberty, as well as other personal issues, so our communication has always been strong. Even though she can come to me for any questions or concerns about her body/mind; I feel that books like this are helpful and give different perspectives that I may not think of. I enjoy information from other sources, and my daughter seems to as well. She said this brought up a lot of what she is noticing with her change (I haven't had a chance to read it yet) and seems more informed on what is going on. It also helped to remind her she's not alone in what she's going through. From what she has told me about this book, it seems to have helped her in a few different ways. I would recommend this to any young girl out there.

After noticing the signs of my daughter beginning puberty, I searched for a book written specifically for the 8 to maybe 11yo, meaning explaining the bodily changes of puberty without going into the entirety of human reproduction. Mine is a young eight and hasn't asked about how babies are conceived, but it was necessary to tell her what was happening with her body.This wonderful book explains just that with age appropriate language, encouraging self-care advice and consistent esteem boosters. We'll be reading this a few times together, and I highly recommend this to any family with developing girls who want a resource that doesn't give too much information before the child is ready.

Has some great info and I would have given it 5 stars if they had included more period options. There are more options than just pads and tampons and I wish they had gone more into cups, sponges, flex discs, etc. I think girls should know they have more options than just a pad or tampon. I didn’t learn I had more options until I was 25 but I wish I had known sooner so I have included those options for my daughter during that part of our discussions. Overall, it definitely helped open up conversations with my daughter and got her asking some questions.

I think the author(s) did amazing with this book!!!I picked 5 star rating because this booked help me so much with my growth and development!I didnt dislike anything in this book! I loved it so much!!!!!!My body is gonna change in a matter of time and this book has prepared me and has given me the best of tips!! Thank you so much!!!!!!!!

My step daughter is 11 and must have read this book no less than 100 times. It answered a lot of questions for her and actually got her to start taking care of herself, which is great because as any mom of a tween girls know they stink and are filthy and need all the help they can get before they enter middle school.

I read the other reviews and was skeptical when buying. However, it was one of the best purchases as it's very informative if you have an open mind. I know all are kids are different but it gave me a lot of info for me to have conversation with my tween daughter, it's a good guideline for parents to start conversatin with their kids about their body images and what may be expected when going thru body changes. It's also a great book to bond with my daughter.

I felt like there was too much focus on weight and what other people think about your body. My daughter doesn't worry about those things and I don't want her to think that she should. I could see this book being useful for a single father with a daughter.
