I don't think you'll get anything out there that will make your vocals sound better than this for less than $70
INSTANT IMPROVEMENT on my vocals! I don't think you'll get anything out there that will make your vocals sound better than this for less than $70. I'm using this in combination with a Shure BETA87C Condenser Cardioid microphone. There is no switch for phantom power on or off, which makes a lot of people hesitant, so let me clarify this myth for you: if the mic has a balanced output, and is wired correctly, even if the mic is a dynamic or ribbon type, phantom will not hurt the mic. So technically as long as you're not connecting microphones with TS jacks, you should be good. For doing that you would need adapters anyways because the in and out of this pedal is exclusively XLR cannon balanced, so in short, any standard microphone should be fine with this. The shape knob changes the tone from darker to brighter, so if your mic is on the darker side, go all the way up and then down from there. If it's too bright, go the other way around. With my mic, since I record a lot of rock, I set the Comp / De-ess to max and the Shape around 10-11 o'clock, with the Warmth switch on.This is the kind of effect that you only perceive when you turn it off. Only then you can tell the difference. So this in combination with a nice preamp should give you some instant magic. I'm using these in combination with the preamps in the Komplete Audio 6 which I think are nothing short of amazing for the price.I hardly take this much time to write a detailed review but this thing improved so much my vocals it's not even funny. GREAT little toy, going to be using this one in a lot of my professional productions!

Very Disappointing.
Perhaps the electronic components in this device have aged-out sitting on the TC Helicon shelf. I'd love to try another, but i don't want to risk getting the same thing. Unfortunately, neither the compression nor the shape control were the least bit noticeable. The warmth was subtle. The volume knob worked fine.I bought this because i wanted a live performance compressor with xlr inputs and outputs.I have to return this. Tell me there was a batch quality mishap that's been corrected and I'll buy it again, as i want what the product is supposed to offer. It just didn't deliver on its promise.Bummer.

Have doubts about buying it? Throw them out, buy it!
If you have any doubts, throw them out and buy it. Tired of fiddling with EQ? Don't feel like having to find your "ideal" voice, not enough time to set-up and sound check like you would like? This little contraption resolves all of those problems. It creates a beautiful crisp tone, it truly is plug and play. For the price you can't beat it, it wont make a bad singer good, it WILL make a good singer sound great. Any negatives? No not really, for its size and capabilities, it is an amazing piece of equipment. TC Helicon makes great products.

Amazon says 1 star = "I hate it".
Amazon says 1 star = "I hate it". I'm not a hater so I'll give it 2 stars. But I can hear no change whatsoever thru the phones or on a digital recording. Helicon help chat says the change is more pronounced with a dynamic mic. ??? Do people still use those? I play and record only in my den with no acoustic treatment. I was looking for some help for an aging voice. But I got a $100, very sturdy, seemingly well made brick.

dead on arrival
Not so much an Amazon critique but a reflection on TC Helicon/Musictribe.Recieved a brand new, unopened unit that was DOA. I wasn't sure if there was something wrong with it, or something wrong with the person trying to operate it. I attempted to contact the manufacturer for advice on the unit after downloading and reading the owners manual. Their website is set up very effectively to deflect and deter this sort of activity. There's not even a web chat option. The only option is to 1. register an account, with more questions than most companies would ask, and they were pretty invasive and 2. create a ticket on more of this awful website, which was obviously designed for employees and a terrible cheap low-cost country front end built for it so they don't have to have pay any employees to actually, like, deal with customers. In TC Helicon's defense, if I knew they were in the Musictribe "family" I honestly wouldn't have even bought the thing. Fortunately, I don't usually have problems with Amazon, and they're taking it back.I'd love to tell you the thing was good, or not-so-good, in this review, but unfortunately, all I can rate it as is "Broken," with a heaping helping of crappy modern corporate customer service.0/10 can rant all day

What Does It Do?
Bought this after some research and used it a few times at band practice. I didn’t see any real advantage when installed. It actually made rehearsal problematic, as it kicked a lot of feedback. Didn’t notice anything in particular to tone or sound when in use.

some positives, but a little over priced
easy to use, de-esser works decently well, compressor also works a little bit but youd be better off just using software when mixing, the warmth button does add a decent amount of texture and detail to vocals. dont know if i can justify the price for the minimal difference in my case, but it might add a lot for you, ive seen these make a huge difference for others. would reccomend if you have a cheaper mic.
