ThinkWrite Premium Headset for Apple iPad, Google Chromebook, Kindle Fire, Android Tablet and Laptops (Black)

Needed a set of headphones with a built in microphone for my son to use for dictation in the classroom. Bought four products to test: * ThinkWrite Premium Headset (this product) * Koss SB-45 Communication Stereophones * Arama Wantek Headset with Noise Canceling Boom Mic * Koss CS100 Speech Recognition Computer HeadsetThe ThinkWrite was the winner. Pros: best sound quality of the bunch. Excellent dictation accuracy results, even with background noise. Best cord, no adapter needed for iPad or iPhone. Blocks some room noise. Reasonably comfortable. Cons: they are a little bigger and bulkier than some of the others, but the pros outweighed this drawback.The Koss CS100 was the runner up. My son liked the smaller form factor on those quite a bit. But the sound quality was a step down from the ThinkWrite. Not terrible, but sounded a little canned. Plus the cord on the CS100 is really long and requires an adapter, so the whole cord contraption would be a bit of nuisance.The Wantek product sounded terrible, easy to disqualify. The Koss SB-45 sounded better, but not as good as the ThinkWrite. They are also big and bulky, and have the same long cord plus adapter problem as the smaller Koss CS100.We tested speech to text briefly with all four products. We did some of the testing with background room noise: radio on, people talking in the room. All four did quite well on this test, and there were not obvious differences from one product to the next. And all the dictation results were better than the comparable results using the built-in iPad microphone. Here the boom mic makes an obvious improvement: it's much easier to get a better signal to noise to ratio by putting the mic in front the speaker's mouth.

Negatives: Seems a little too easy to break. I've had a couple of these break through pretty rough use with students. Most commonly, they break where the microphone attaches to the headset. Like I said, my students are pretty rough with them, but I've definitely seen more durable headsets.Positives: When you have a lot of people in a small room all trying to use their headsets it is important that the headsets can block noise. The large speakers fit over the ear and block out the background noise better than any other headset I have used. If you have the budget you can buy headsets that use electronic noise-cancelling technology, but most of the time that sort of thing is not within the budget. These work well enough for me. Additionally, the microphones on these are set up so that you have to speak directly into them. This helps eliminate background noise when you are on a call or something like that. I've tried a lot of other headsets and one of the biggest complaints I have with those is that their mics pick up a ton of background noise.Overall, a very good product for the price!

Update 10/12/2017. After submitting warranty claim on the issue ThinkWrite PROMPTLY sent me a new pair of headphones to replace the defective ones. The customer service was outstanding and my son is now happily resume his studies. I wanted to change my review to let others know that Thinkwrite stand behind their products!!!These were GREAT headsets until the tip came out of the plastic casing and stuck in the headset jack after just 8 weeks of use. Now we cannot use them. There was no strain put on it at all just putting in and out of the computer port. I have contacted the seller to see if we can have them replaced as they are not even TWO months old. The sound quality of these was really good and the Mic was clear so I will gladly edit my review once the issue is fixed. I hope the warranty is honored on these.

I have had these for about a year and wanted to wait before I posted my review because of all the mixed reviews. Perfect for my needs. I keep these in my backpack and the take a fair amount of abuse. They are not the highest quality but if you need something that can handle being tossed around and still work so far these have been great. I have used them for mostly listening to music and lectures on my laptop. I have tried them with Skype and Dragon with no issues. They are not the most comfortable for wearing for extended periods. Usually after about 3 or 4 hours I have to take them off.Update: 2020 during COVID-19, I have used these for a lot of Zoom, Teams and other Virtual meetings and they are going strong. They have outlasted many of the other headphones I have paid twice the amount for. They are not noise canceling but I can hear and speak with no issues.

The headsets arrived today. Great purchase, I have been listening to music with them the sound is so clear and crip. The vocals were great! And the sounds of the instruments were were so clear. I bought them for a language class. I am convinced I will have no trouble hearing the sounds of my target language! This product was exactly what my twins needed. I ordered two of them for my boys to use on their iPads for gaming and youtube videos. However, it has scarcely been more than a month, and one of them just suddenly quit working. They store them carefully, and have used them reasonably, but it just stopped working. I could understand that I would need to replace it after a few months of ten-year-old handling, and would gladly have replaced it after six months as necessary, but not even 40 days later? Not cool.

I bought these for my work from home situation. These are comfy on the ears and head. They are a slightly heavier than expected. They are bulky, but they work great for blocking out the environmental noises. Has adjustable audio volume. These seem pretty durable, might be good for kids.

Got these for dh's Laptop and they are really nice quality. Just plugged into the laptop and started using. He said they are really comfortable. The price was great too. I was impressed with how quickly we received them and would definitely order from this company again.
