A British ambassador's once asked me if any one played oboe in Jazz? At the time I could only think quickly of one name. He may not be the 'father' of jazz oboe but he certainly was a founding father of World Music from his side of the ocean well before Randy Weston hit his Africa tripping and before Coltrane envisioned the east
