The Hermitage: 250 Masterworks

This is a beautiful book filled with gorgeous photos of items from the Hermitage's vast holdings. The only problem is, it's a selection from the larger, two-volume set that Rizzoli published a few years ago. If you have the larger work, as I do, this contains nothing new. If you don't have the larger work, this is an excellent value and worth five stars. If you're primarily interested in paintings, be aware that paintings are about half of the objects pictured.

The pictures are wonderful. But without explantion, I had no idea what much of it was. It is an excellent visual record, which is all it purports to be. I will go elsewhere to learn about the collections.

A sumptuous and colorful overview of one of the world's greatest art museums. Charlie Rose's tour and interview with its general director piqued my interest to see and know more. This book is a fitting and fairly brief tour of the museum's great rooms and its peerless collections. Bravo!

Purchased this after a holiday to St.Petersburg. Am not disappointed. The photographs are clear and it provides a good memory boost.

We visited the Hermitage, which was fantastic and bought this when we got home. Buying it in St Petersburg and carrying it back home would have pushed us into excess baggage!

250 wonderful colour illustrations of a fraction of the old masters in The Hermitage museum. A visit there is an enriching experience.
