Best quality watercolor
I don't know any artist that doesn't like Daniel Smith watercolor. The price might seem high if you are new to watercolor, but it is well worth the price and because of the high pigmentation it lasts a long time. It only takes a small amount. I use the tube paints after I squeeze them into a palette. I let them dry a couple of days before use. These paints do not require you to spray with water. As soon as you touch the paint pan with the wet brush you are ready to go. I paint a lot. The 15 ml tubes will last a long time. The 5 ml tubes last a long time and perfect for trying out a color. If you are using any of the phthalo colors, you will use less since these are very pigmented and you just need a touch when mixing with another color. Something like an Ultramarine blue and burnt sienna, these colors you would get a lot of use from and a 15 ml tube would be good. If you are just starting to use water color this set is so good because you won't get overwhelmed and you will learn color mixing skills. I would add to this set 2 Earth colors like burnt sienna and raw umber.

Perfect package if you mix your colors
This is an excellent test for discovering if you like Daniel Smith paints. The tubes are small, but they are enough to paint for a long time and if you mix all your colors like I do, they are really all you need.

Truly Extraordinary Watercolors
Some of the very finest watercolor paints I have ever bought have been made by Daniel Smith Co. The color, tone, hue, delicateness are all fators that Daniel Smith paints incorporate in their product. It seems that finally, people have started to reach for and pay for the highest quality paints. I have gone completely to high end paints. It is not that I am such a great artist, but in te event that something I do create becomes xcellent or highly appreciated, I don't want to take the chance that I could recreate it with goosd paints later. So, since I am not nearly as good an artist as I wish I was and since. am 60 years old now, I only have so mmuch time in my life to paint my own "Mona Lisa" or "Stary Night.". I suspect that my fine motor skills will not take me there.Nonetheless, you never know what your ability is until you give it a try. Never assum that you cannot do it, If you read some of th books I hav recommended by Billy Showell you will see a true master. Ms. Showell is truly an extraordinary painter and she has a number of excellent books, which are still in print, that I would recommend to any person interested in painting living things, but especially flowers, trrees, gladees, natue. Her work is truly an inspiration to all of us amateur artists. After all, one never knows how good oe can be unless they give it a try. I hav e met people who were in the process of throwing thing in the garbage that I would have paid hundreds or thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars if I was buying it at an auction. We all ave the right to dream. And we all have the riight to create. I would encourage you to try and do so. Maybe you will find you have a hidden talent that you were too timid to try out. Well, you never have to show your work to anyone if you on't want to show it. But my guess is, you will want to show it, especialy as you get better and better. Jump in with both fet and see how good you really are. Best of luck and remember to enjoy yourself.

One beginner to another.....
Lots of people advise beginner painters to buy cheap paint and paper. As a beginner watercolorist, I totally disagree. cheap watercolor paints and inexpensive paper give you such poor performance that you will quit with discouragement. This paint is ever so lovely in performance and pigment load. I highly recommend Daniel Smith paints. They go further than you expect, too. Happy painting!

Excellent starter colors set !!
First off. Daniel Smith makes top quality professional artist watercolors. This set has both warm and cool versions of the three primary colors red, yellow, and blue. (Okay, some people prefer printers' graphic primaries- slightly different choices.) With this set you can mix pretty much ANY color you need. I know, I've done it. I keep giving this set to watercolor painter friends and students as I find it so useful. You can always add other colors, but with these six you can learn so much about how to mix a huge range of colors! You can also cut down on how many tubes of paint (these are small) you need to carry when traveling or painting locally. This set is fabulous!

Great starter set
Daniel Smith produces beautiful colors, I already own the intro essentials kit and some others. I wanted to try Primatek so I grabbed this set. Overall stunning colors. These aren't someone I would use daily, but they are perfect for adding just something extra to your images. If you love granulation, this is for you. It gives a gorgeous texture. Why did I dock a star? I feel like the video and packaging is misleading on Hematite. I thought it was more brown, and it looks more like a graphite color on various papers(high-low end). I can use it as I do a lot of outdoor work, but misleading none the less. I did order two other colors not in the set, one is more brown/gold so I hope that is more on par with what I was looking for, for landscapes. Overall, this will be great for a wash with texture, landscapes, water, even trees, but if you like extremely vibrant colors this Primatek set probably isn't for you. These are more pale than their standard colors unless you pack layers.
