Impressive LED Bulb
The Philips EnduraLED 17 Watt LED light bulb is an impressive bulb. It is, by a good margin, the brightest LED bulb I've yet seen. It is well built, and though somewhat longer than a 75 Watt Incandescent bulb, or, for that matter, CFL bulb, it is not so long as to prevent it's use in most table lamps, or overhead fixtures. I read an observation that claimed it is too big for many practical applications, but I disagree. My overall impression about the quality of the bulb is very positive. The only thing that doesn't completely please me is merely a matter of personal preference, and that concerns the color temperature. 2700 Kelvin might be the color temperature of a incandescent bulb, but the mix of different wavelengths of light in a brighter incandescent bulb would give it a whiter appearance. The light coming from the Philips bulb is more predominantly yellow, which in my view, renders a lower apparent degree of illumination. If Philips will come out with this bulb in a 5100 Kelvin, I'll be absolutely satisfied. That isn't to say that I wouldn't buy more of the 2700K bulbs, but I'd be more motivated to eat the somewhat high price if it were my preferred color temperature. Personal preferences aside, I would easily recommend this bulb for someone looking to rid themselves of CFL's or incandescent bulbs. The overhead light in my dining room had 2 CFL's with a total wattage of about 60 watts. 2 of the Philips, giving significantly more light, use just a shade over 50% of that power. That translates into a big savings on our electrical bill over the course of a year. Knowing that the EPA is about to lower the boom on energy usage just makes it more urgent to slash electrical usage. I believe in efficiency for efficiency sake, and don't care about the myth of "Global Warming". Over the course of the projected 20 year lifetime of these bulbs, they will more than pay for themselves. Not only wlll they use less power, since they will also give off less waste heat, they will lessen the load on your air conditioning system, which will further cut your electrical usage. A hidden side benefit is that your A/C, not having to work quite as hard, will likely last longer. Win-win, how can you complain about that? LED's are where we are heading, so it's about time for everyone to start thinking about making the switch. If you are looking for a bright, high quality bulb, then take my suggestion, and buy some Philips EnduraLED bulbs. This one would be a good start.

Interesting LED bulb
Positive:Very bright! Good light quality. Says its 2700k but it seems more true white than a normal incandescent.Comes on at full brightness. Dimmable. Solid build. Good size. Long life. This comes close to a practical LED bulb. If price drops, and heat issues resolved, these could replace incandescents.Negative:some dimmers cause a horrible flicker. Gets very hot, takes a long time to cool down.(this is normal for high efficiency LED bulbs). Very heavy. Can't use in enclosed fixture due to heat build up. Slight 1 second or less delay when turning on. Very high price means impractical, except for very specific needs. Probably won't pay for itself over its lifetime. May or may not work in your dimmer.

Too hot for an LED.
This bulb gets very hot and is not worth the money for an LED.

Beware Electromagnetic Interference
We've had many bulbs (incandescent and CFLs) go out in our garage door opener - probably due to a combination of a motion sensor that turns it on and off often, and cold weather (they always seem to go out in the winter). We thought we'd try out LED because they're on immediately (CFLs are pretty dim in the winter months until they warm up), and because of their supposed longevity. While they turned right on, and we were pleased with the brightness, there was one fatal flaw - we couldn't open or close the garage door with the remotes when the lights were on! I even tried putting foil between the lights and the antenna. That helped a little - our car with a built in remote could open it while in the garage, but you had to hold the button in for several seconds, and it still didn't work outside of the garage, the keypad on the outside, or the normal remotes anywhere. Guess we're back to CFLs.

Not using as intended
I ordered these to replace halogen bulbs in a wall mount in my bathroom. For one, they are way longer (taller?) than the halogen or incandescent bulbs that easily fit the fixture without sticking out the top (and having these yellow things stick out the top is somewhat of an eyesore.Be that as it may, the two 17 watt Philips bulbs don't dim very well, using a dimmer switch designed for them (See my review of the Lutron MaCL-153M Maestro Dimmer designed for LEDs and CFLs. These bulbs do not dim smoothly, and only dim down to about 25 percent before turning off completely. When turning on, you have to turn the dimmer switch on to more than 50 percent before these bulbs come on, and they come on with a vengeance, looking almost full bright. I wound on using them in my garage overhead lighting, where they work fine as "non-dimmable" lighting, but saves on power.I replaced these with two Sylvania Brand of 13 watt dimmable bulbs (two 60w equivalent each), purchased from Costco, and they work very well at all switch levels.Captain

Answers our lighting prayers
The PHILIPS EnduraLED 17 watt A21 bulbs have answered our lighting prayers. They don't take 2-3 minutes to "warm up" like CFLs. The light they provide is crisp and beautiful. They save energy. They fit in our lamps without a problem, no matter what shade type we have. They should last a long time.Like everyone, we've spent the last few years adjusting to CFLs -- turn them on, wait a little bit before they're fully bright, and even then, skooch a little closer to the light because they CFLs don't throw enough light to read by comfortably. We've been looking for an energy-saving alternative, since using a full 75W bulb again seemed worse than compromising with CFLs. Now, with the PHILIPS EnduraLEDs, we don't have to compromise. The 17-watt bulbs snap right on at full brightness, the light in perfect, and we're reading comfortably and not clutching the chair arm or edge of the bed. We're very happy these have arrived and work so well.
