Ann Wedgeworth = Great, The Rest is So-So
I bought this cheap after the death of Ann Wedgeworth because someone online wrote how great she was as Patsy Cline’s mother. They were right because Ann’s scenes are the best part of the movie and she has the 1950s Southern matriarch bit down-pat. I wasn’t that impressed with the rest of it. Jessica Lange’s lip-syncing was too distracting during the musical sequences and I didn’t really connect with any of the other characters. Coincidentally, this was an early small role for John Goodman and he and Ann Wedgeworth were reunited on ROSEANNE in 1989 when she played his mother Audrey. But only once—years later when the character resurfaced it was as a nutcase played by Debbie Reynolds—nothing like Ann’s original portrayal. I will stick to listening to my CD of Patsy Cline’s Greatest Hits instead of keeping this DVD for rewatch. That is more pleasurable than watching Patsy’s struggles and tragic death play out in a mediocre biopic.

The Legendary Patsy Cline
Sweet Dreams is just a good movie overall! This movie is about country superstar Patsy Cline & her life! There's a lot of great classic country music songs included throughout the movie! The row of Patsy Cline is performed by Jessica Lange & she does a outstanding job! The movie mainly covers the years from 1956 to her death in 1963! We get to witness about everything, from the early years of her career, the car wreck, & also her meeting her future husband Charlie Dick! Patsy Cline open the door wide open today for the women of country music! Wish they had shed light on the relationship/friendship with Loretta Lynn! The movie running time is about 115 minutes & is in color!

The Charlie Dick Story?
This movie really short changed the great miss Patsy Cline. It shows that she had a measure of success and fame, but it sure doesn't play like a happy or good life. Rather tragic and messy.I was looking forward to learning the background stories of her most popular songs and watching the performances of I Fall to Pieces, Crazy, and Sweet Dreams. I was hoping to learn more about her friendships with Loretta Lynn, Dottie West, and others. She was known for nurturing, mentoring, and being a big sister to other country performers. Her friends said that she was generous and thoughtful. But that's not how she's depicted in this movie. She comes across as restless, dissatisfied, self-centered, and brash. Cussin' her mama and drinking. Insecure, unfaithful. Fighting with and cheating on her husbands. Kinda trashy. A real jerk. I found myself thinking that it was a little hard to believe that such a rich, emotive, beautiful voice could come out of such a person. I don't think it's a balanced or fair depiction.Really, the movie was mostly about her second husband, (the stud), Charlie Dick, and their apparently hot and heavy sexual relationship, (read shallow). It wasn't very interesting. Actually quite boring. I kept skipping over scenes.I guess the movie did afford one insight. Both she and Charlie had suffered abandonment by their fathers as teens. Her father walked out on the family, and Charlie's father committed suicide right in front of him. That explained a lot. (I read that she was also sexually abused by her father.)I also think they could have done more with the costumes, and Jessica Lange's appearance and hair. The real Patsy Cline was Classic Country with shining dark locks.I usually really enjoy biopics about singers, but not this one.

Tear-jerker bio about a pioneering female singer
Sweet Dreams is another tear-jerker biopic but Jessica Lange delivers a tour-de-force performance as Patsy Cline (-Dick). Lange also mouths to the voice of Patsy Cline with effectiveness. Ed Harris plays Charlie Dick, her second husband. Their tumultuous marriage is laid out with truth. In spite of it, Patsy Cline persevered and became a superstar performer. Sadly, her life is cut short at 30 when she dies in a plane crash. Director Karel Reisz creates a vivid and extraordinarily honest view of Cline's life. Spanning the years of 1956 through 1963, the film has a sadness because we see know the story of Patsy Cline ends. Still, this is a solid biopic that Cline's fans will treasure for her resolve and strength.

Love This Movie
I watched this movie when it came out in the 80s. I've always been a Patsy Cline fan. Jessica Lange is great as Patsy. As a matter of fact all of the cast are perfect in their roles. I'm glad they used Patsy's own voice for the music in this film as no one else in the world has a voice like her. I saw Beverly Diangelo in Coal Miner's daughter but I didn't like her portrayal of Patsy as much nor that she sang Patsy's songs herself. Sissy Spacek and Tommy Lee Jones are amazing in that one though. I definitely recommend both movies. A little Easter egg, in one scene where a pregnant Patsy stands over a record player you can see a framed picture of Dolly Parton as a child on the mantle above the fireplace.

Plays perfectly on my computer!
I've been after this film for ages after remembering it from a video rented in the 1980's, but have never seen it since. I don't have a player that plays region 1 dvd's so took a chance and ordered hoping I could view it on my computer after reading a review above.I am glad to say that this plays perfectly in my computer.I love the film, the soundtrack is great, the love story between the lead actors is convincing, and Jessica Lange gets it just right. So glad I took the chance, much cheaper than a region 2 DVD

Must be region 2 to play in our country.
I was so looking forward to watching this great film when I put it on to play. It will only play region one. We don't have that our country is Region 2 thanks

I love my films and it would help a great deal ...
This is one of many dvd's that I've received lately that doesn't play on my machine. I love my films and it would help a great deal if in the discription of the films you sell you include the meaning of the "regions" or code or whatever it is that causes a dvd to be played in certain countries.
