Fire risk in higher voltage areas.
This product is of no use in Australia.Necause it runs on a much lower voltage and therefore it cremates everything and I was told by an electrician that it was a fire risk.

Perfect gift that gives back for my Japanese girlfriend. Works beautifully.
My girlfriend is Japanese and misses Japanese food. You know, the everyday food, like how I miss a Chicago style hot dog, gyro, or pizza. I looked at all kinds of taiyaki makers and took a chance with this one. Awesome choice on my part. I got some instant pancake mix and coarse red bean paste and went to town cranking these out. The taiyaki pans are a bit shallow, so making them perfectly is tricky with the red bean paste, but I may be making typical gaijin mistakes. Cleanup is easier than my American made waffle iron and Foreman grill. I clean this with a paper towel. It is very durable and has a power light and a "ready" light. Taiyaki is such a delicious snack, it's a shame there aren't street vendors in the states, so it is great having this maker at home.

Okay to use in America if you are careful
I bought this taiyaki maker to use in America...so in order to accommodate the voltage differences, i pretty much don't let it heat up, stay right with it, and unplug it between batches, as it gets super hot super quickly. Its a bit hard to clean if you get batter on the exposed coils at the back, so less batter is better! All in all, it makes a very fun addition to brunch. I love trying out different fillings and feeding these to my friends and family.

Good for the novice
This was an Xmas present for my husband's brother. Recipes for the batter are fairly easy to find on Pinterest (from scratch or package mix variety). We also purchased a separate can of the sweetened red bean paste to go with it. He used it for the first time this weekend and told us it deserved a good review. The only downside he found was that the instructions are not in English.

FUN!
Fun! Be careful though. The Japanese-designed appliance is not quite designed for American households, so it heats up faster and runs hotter. But makes very cute taiyaki.

great Christmas present
highly superior to the other models offered. especially if you have an electric stove. the others all seem to require a gas flame.
