I laughed. I cried. I am making my own list now!
Wow. James Dodson captures the true spirit and meaning of the game of golf (life).A semi-chronological journey detailing his beginnings, his love of golf. I paused read several times to look up events and people mentioned. This book hopefully will inspire me and others to keep playing the game, and for the right reasons. Read this book!

Wonderful Story Skillfully Written
I loved this book and immediately bought it again for a golf neighbor and bought A Golfer's Life and Final Rounds. I fancy myself as a pretty good writer and like Mr. Dodson's style and the easy flow of his writing, wandering off purposefully into one anecdote only to bring you skillfully back to his main topic.I would very much like to contact Mr. Dodson, as I want to correct one reference he made to a course in Sandusky, Ohio that isn't there, to ask about the course he played in Findlay, Ohio, and to mention another really fine Tom Bendelow course that actually does exist in Sandusky, Ohio and try to make a connection so he can play it. Please pass along my comment or send me the correct way to contact him. Thanks very much. Oh and I share Mr. Dodson's love of the sandhills area, was stationed at Pope AFB for 18 months just to be close to Pinehurst/Southern Pines and in 1979 played Mid-Pines during the week of the Masters and, having never been to Augusta, can't imagine anything could be more beautiful than Mid-Pines was that day (but, of course, am willing to learn!).Scott Stubblebine509.967.3025

Very interesting and informative...
I really liked the short story format. It kept me interested throughout the novel.Right from the beginning the club tossing narrative really hit home because I had a similar incident as a youngster. The great news is that I am in my late 50’s and have never thrown a club since that valuable learning experience.I also found myself jumping out of the book to look up golf courses, architects, players, tournaments and other subjects James Dodson mentions in his narrative. A wonderful indirect and unexpected education. The chapter toward the end of the book about seeing Arnold Palmer for the last time was tearfully heartwarming. I personally think about him every time I have an ice tea/lemonade. Arnold is so missed...Overall, a terrific work. I just wish the author would have achieved his bucket list hole-in-one. Looking forward to this chapter addendum!

A vocation this is an avocation...
James Dodson captures the essence of life through his love affair with golf. Those of us who only caddied or walked courses occasionally can admire the game and the lessons learned through the lens of Dodson. He clearly was fortunate to have made his vocation his avocation; a feat few can claim.Dodson's style of writing rhythmically details run-ins with many of golf's greatest and best known, such as Donald Trump. But only to explore and expound on the events of a career which brought clarity to his life and personal relationships.I have sent copies to my friends and family who are passionate about the game of golf; or about reading an engaging and entertaining book.Alice Hill

A Golfer's Life of his own!
James Dobson writes about the great golf and life experiences of many of the most famous golfers and golf personalities of the last century. While writing about them, he is living the dream of students of the game everywhere. There are additional insights about Arnold Palmer, Peggy Kirk Bell, architects and amateurs in all walks of life - all delivered from the standpoint of friend that can't believe their good fortune to be in the presence. Funny stories, moving stories, inspirational stories. If you can't get enough of golf - the game, the people and the venues - you've got to get this book.
